2004 Discovery

I found a local sale for a 2004 land rover discovery. My wife has always wanted one so I wanted to see how much it is worth.

125,000 miles

KBB Private Party on this is $6,716. They are asking $11,500.

Are they asking way to much?

I ran KBB on my 2004 a couple days ago to get a rough equity assessment. It came to just under $12,000 with 110,000 miles on it (not counting upgrades); I can't imagine a mere 15,000 miles cutting the value in half. Unless there's damage or issues we aren't being told about I'd say his asking price is spot on.

Too much money. $4,500-$5,500 tops
I just bought one for $2800

X2.

I've bought and sold a few Discos. Last one was a 2004 S with 140k and 0 rust. It needed a couple of small things when I bought it (forget what, but under $100) and I paid $3600 I believe. I fixed everything and sold it for $4200 after driving it for a few months. $11k is dreaming. NICE Discoverys go for $6-7k at most.

KBB isn't always realistic. You can get a 2004 Range Rover for $10-11k.

Overpriced. I think the $5,000-$6,000 range would be reasonable for a well maintained 04' with that mileage.

Most of them at that higher price still have working engines :)

04s seem to be the most valuable year, though this truck doesn't look very mint. I would not be surprised if it went for $6500.

Too much. Those later D2 engines are more prone to dropping liners. I used to want an '04. Not so much now.

Maintenance records; the more the better.

It will need a head gasket job. Not if, when. If it's ever been run hot you'll eventually need a new engine. Some fail without even having been run hot.

Also, a front driveshaft with greaseable U-joints is a must. The stock unit will grenade and take out the transmission.
