The real point to my previous post is...

I hear you on the rust. That's a big factor for me too. It's probably not a big deal with a little work to arrest it. But I don't want to deal with it and I certainly don't want to get caught with a rig I paid a bunch for that now isn't worth anything because it's so rusted no one wants it. I'll be close by in a couple weeks. If it's still there I'll check it out in person.

I still have to wonder why the previous owner would have taken $15k (+-) for it. It's such a specialty vehicle and they obviously knew that as the owner so it just seems odd to just trade it in.

I wonder how the dealer got it so cheap. They must have only given $15k for it, maybe less. So why would someone take that little for it unless something is wrong with it?

Some people just don't realize how much things are worth or how desirable it may be on the private market. From the carfax, it looks like someone traded it in and not purchased at auction. If they got the top installed back in 2005 or 2006, it was probably "only" $5,000. Maybe they felt the value was fully depreciated...? There was a person on the smb forum that bought an 08 or 09 E350 passenger van (2wd) with a penthouse top for like $16k at a dealer in TX.
