Yea, I thought the Wildernest was a decent compromise. Have you and your lady ever removed it? Maybe if I can get some first hand accounts....

I call one of my buddies....you can also rig up a hoist system with pullies. Then it can be done with one person.http://www.topcaplift.com/

If I went with a RRT I think this would be a cool option for a topper, tool boxes on the side for easy access, ambie doors.

I don't know if it work, I am sure with the proper structure and supports. Cut the top out of the topper, make the bottom of the RRT removable, make up some connecting "Flashing" or a Gator for inbetween the topper and the RRT. A Widernestesque RRT. ;)

I was JUST thinking about how to do that on the ride home. My buddy has a contractor grade canopy and it sure seems sturdy enough. I am able to jump on it without any scary noises or buckling. I really like the Wildernest idea and I wish a company would tackle it. The most difficult part would be getting it to be weathertight.

There is also Flip Pac, still produced, same thing, but, flips foward, hard to find used, but, they do pop-up every now and then. I have seen them below $2000.

Brand new they are around $3-4000...now if, if I was going to shell out that much, I would save up another grand and buy a "Shell Model" of the Four Wheel Camper or an All Terrian Camper. I have also thought of going the "build your own" when the Widernest finally had it...it is fairly beat as of now, but, it works.

Allochris built his own pop-up. I think he has $3000 into his.

Utes are cool too, imagine this shell ontop of a set of tool boxes.

Yea, thats an awesome option. Maybe if I am ever to have a dedicated expo vehicle.

That is the Wildernest I am thinking about. I haven't seen it in person, what do you think?

Hard to tell from the pictures, but, for $400...I don't think you can go wrong. looks like it is missing the front slider window...(see if you can knock him down another $100.

My Tacoma is a daily driver too...so it isn't totally dedicated to travel only...would nice, but, hey...

I paid the same for mine, mine is beat, but, it does work. I bought a new, sleeping pad, water proofed the tent part. Patched some holes, and it is good. I am very happy with it, there is a thread on replacement parts. The main prop pole is tubing you can find at a hard ware store.

You can always throw a tarp on it too, if it leaks. A trick to stay warm is to put a blanket between the tarp and the tent itself. I have been in 25 degree weather with it so far....a good sleeping bag, and you should be fine. My heater, I turn it on before we get up out of the bags to take the chill off.

Cool thing about them , you can still use the 'Nest as a regular topper. I have no real need to take it off. I also own a utility trailer so if it doesn't fit in the truck, I throw it on the trailer..(those are Home Depot runs...)

This my extended stay setup.... I put up a gear tent too...you can see the trailer.

My next project is going to be to enclose the trialer, so I can throw all of the moto gear in the trailer, then only have the camping/cooking gear in the Wildernest. So for a quick stop, we don't have climb over the motogear to get in the 'Nest.
