2005 Disco 3 (LR3) vs new Hilux Revo for overlanding

Hi all,

It happens that my parents want to join me and my GF on some overland trips. That will include mostly south and eastern Europe and Morocco.
They currently have a very good condition, stock, 2005 TDV6 Disco 3 (LR3). Never had any big repair, but received a new turbo and alternator last year.
They like it, it's crazy confortable and versatile, but they're skeptical of the LR reliability for overlanding, specially after their past Disco 2 TD5 and RR P38 experiences.

They were impressed by all the Toyotas I photographed on my Dakar trip so went to see a new Hilux Revo at a local Toyota dealer. They had a test drive and liked it a lot. The dealer offered a good deal.

So, right now, they have two options:
A) keep the Disco 3, spend 5 or 6K € to equip it and enjoy the confort and offroad abilities.

B) sell the Disco and some other car they have and buy te Hilux, then slap it with 265/75R16 tires, OME suspension, underbody protection and be done with it, enjoying new car/Toyota reliability.

Any of them will receive a hard shell roof tent.

Which one would you prefer for overlanding on the regions I mentioned?
Thanks

PS - I'm cross posting this on the Hilux board to avoid any brand bias

I know very little about the new hiluxes, but I do know that some LR clubs over in Europe frequently do trips in North Africa with the newer discoverys.

D3 will be more comfortable than the Hilux (by a longshot).
Toyota is the gold standard for reliability (though that's relative).

That, to me, is the crux of the argument. Can you live with the possible reliability issues and temper your travel accordingly while enjoying what is a drastically improved platform compared to the Dii and P38-or do you want the belief (faith?) in an (expensive) Toyota product that, while new, generally still aren't comforable?

I'm taking my 2004 Tdv6 Disco 3 to Morocco in October.

I have no concern with it making it there and back. It's getting a few age and mileage items changed as it's sitting at just under 160,000 miles but it still drives very well.

It has proven ability, plenty of space for 4 people and kit, is comfortable for long distances.
Pack a few spares, get an IID tool and away you go.

They get used plenty for Overland trips in Australia and Africa. If they were crap at that task. They wouldn't get used.

Thanks for the answers, I'll share them with my folks.

Honestly, I'm trying to motivate them to keep the Disco 3, I think it's an amazing vehicle and I just love to see them all expedition farkled
