"Larry," my 2006 E-350 offroad short bus, has been my trusty adventure companion for years, but most of my travel these days is highway cross-country driving so it's time to pass this beast on to the next adventurer.
Core mechanicals:
* 5.4L v8 gas engine. Everyone always talks about wanting the diesel econolines but this engine has never given me even a murmur of trouble.
* Weldtec Baja Grocery Getter 6" lift w/ fox shocks
* Rear airbags for adjustable suspension
* 34" BFG KO2s
* 35gal gas tank
Despite not being 4x4 this thing's conquered everything from snowy peaks to deep sand in Baja without any issues. I think the weight, tires, and suspension setup conspire to make it extremely capable. The only time I got truly stuck in deep sand, I just aired down aggressively and drove out with zero problems.
Build:
It is an extremely functional interior build but not particularly "fancy"— exposed pocket holes, non-upholstered plywood, etc. It does the job!
* Bunk beds (sleeps 4)
* Custom live-edge slab walnut kitchen
* Propane stove (extremely efficient) with externally mounted propane for peace of mind
* Nice large sink w/ foot-pump (winter safe)
* 21 gal fresh water tank
* 200W solar on the roof w/ 100ah house battery
* 40L fridge
* Maxxair fan & auxiliary sirocco fan
* Chinese diesel heater
* USB chargers, lights, etc.
* Built-in disco ball
Tons of storage and will come fully loaded with camping/cooking gear.
Has Vermont RV reg currently but was prev. CA registered and passes CA smog no problem. It is small enough to drive like a normal car and park anywhere, but big enough to comfortably sleep 2-4 on trips of any length— and capable enough to get wherever you need to go. It's kept me pretty cozy down to 10 degrees and once sheltered 7 people during a rainy Baja night.
Minor cons: Road noise (it is a bus, this is unavoidable!), mpg is nothing to write home about, passenger door could use some love, and front tires are probably due for replacement. The build is super functional but has many imperfect spots - everything is super modifiable.
Mileage: 116k (and counting, I am driving it a bit)
Location: Santa Cruz, CA
Price: Looking for $25K (I have more $$ than this into it but must sell by february.)
Larry will take you literally anywhere and turn heads on the way.
