2006 Stewart & Stevenson/BAE 6x6 Build

"The Bear Necessities"
I can honestly say you have an amazing truck! I am former active Army and currently a National Guardsman, and have driven those LMTV's all over the place. From ten hour highway trips, to hours on end in the field. The six my unit has have been very dependable, very little problems (flat tires, head lights, wiper blades, and one had a leak on the piston that raises the cab). All in all a great truck! They have excellent highway characteristics, behave well in traffic, and are a little bumpy in the rough stuff. I have driven over 10k miles in LMTV's over the past 15 years, have yet to be let down. Good luck, and I can't wait to see more pictures!

People are going to do what they are going to do. But when we found this information out, it was enough for us to not want to even take the chance - it just wasn't worth it. Besides that, it is against the law.

I'll do my best to stay off that particular soap box from now on. I would just hate to hear of someone losing their vehicle because I was silent on the point."

Robert:

Sorry but I do not manage well with the QUOTE issues.

This is from another thread on this site. Did you know?

Hi Mike,

Depending on if you can do your own work as I am, parts for just the ring & pinion are around $1k each. Not bad if you consider they are forged parts. I am still waiting on prices for either Detroit Tru-tracs or full Detroit lockers. Shoot me a pm if you have other questions.

On a side note I just picked up seven new Michelin XZL 14r 20's I will be mounting up for the 6x6. I will post some pics in the near future. So I have four 395/85-r20 Michelin XML with 116 miles on them available.

I would recommend buying at least one more 14.00R20. You'd hate to have one flat abort a long trip, that size is even rarer in N. America than the 395s.
I carry one mounted spare plus, on long trips, 2 unmounted used spares.

395's are not that rare, I'm sure I could get one tomorrow if I wanted. The Military is surplussing loads of them. I'm pretty sure it's one of the main tires sizes that they use on the MRAP's
It's the size we run on the She Beast. Only we like the Goodyear and they are harder to find :-/

Yeah, you can buy one tomorrow but when will it show up on your doorstep? The average tire dealer doesn;t have them or access to them. Even less so for 14.00R20s.
If you want to ignore this advice go ahead.

If I got it from someone out of state it would prob take a week or so, if i went out to our local mv tire dealer I could have it today.

But you are right about your standard tire dealer not having them, and if they did it would cost 4 times what we pay for them.

I do forget that most people get their truck tires from the same place they get their car tires, and their parts from places like Alto Zone, and NAPA. None of that works for us. We're buying tires and parts from a whole dif circle of people (also country wide).

. . . sent without me knowing . . .

Unless someone at BAE, govliquidation or another connected source can show me the "Federal Law", which means codes and statutues (Title number and CFR number), the BS flag goes right up the flag pole here.

I have heard "that is against the law" or "federal law prohibits that" so many times I could throw up. I would venture to say that 99% of people (excluding lawyers and their ilk) have ever even picked up a Code of Federal Regulations or a Federal Statutes book to read. Govliquidation probably assumes no liability for "road use", as you could buy it and use it on your farm for example, but I must "assume" if it were "illegal" for a citizen/slave to own it, there would be provisions in place to prevent that event from occurring.

Back to your regularly scheduled programming. Incidentally, there are several of these floating around in "private" hands now. Check out the milveh forums like steel soldiers, where you will see owners and their trucks.

Hi,

Are there any updates to this project? I'm starting to get interested in buying an LMTV for myself!
