Thanks.

The thought has been around for years. To the extent that I have a late 70's HP44 and a matching 9 inch tucked away at our property. Also have a set of axles under my Suburban that could be reappropriated since they are of the military variety and have been already gone through semi-recently.

However....The truck does all I really ask of it now. It drives well, it wheels good, it is balanced overall IMO. I can cruise 80 on the highway or crawl through the woods. I get 15-16 mpg consistently and I am not afraid to drive it anywhere. Heck it got duty as the 135 mile commuter today since the DD lost a water pump. I have seen 3 or 4 of these SAS'ed and you have to go UP HIGH to clear the oil pan. Not sure 40-42 inch tires would allow me all the versatility I have with the 35s. Plus parts are cheap for this platform. It does not break often, but I can get parts simply and cheaply and there is alot to be said for that on big journeys. One day though... I would love some solid axles and big tires and to make it just a toy...

I like that approach. If it ain't broke don't fix it. It would be a lot of extra time, work and money to try and get a SAS setup to perform like your truck already does. Don't see a reason to make that leap unless you are just extremely bored and want to make it happen.

New tranny mount is in. Took out a bunch of slop that had developed.

Got the rear drilled n slotted rotors and new ceramic pads installed.

Built some simple bolt on sway bar links for the front since I towed a lil enclosed trailer down to Lake Barkley and figured they might be helpful. Worked well.

Decided to try out the LED Lightbar thing and I see why people love them. I only have the bumper mounted 20 incher wired up until I get some mounts built for the 32 in the basket, but it is AMAZING. I can only imagine what the upper will add. I went with the combo bars with the ends as flood pattern and centers as spot. Seems to be really nice. I also went back to my Yakima Load Warrior to help protect the bar on the roof. Wanting to redo the roof rack whole setup again, but figured since I had this...why not use it.

Anyway: A few pics.

Quad beams- HID low and cheap imitation hid high beams

20 inch bar

Nice build. Your going to love having lights at multiple levels. It was a whole another level when I added my roof mounted 50".

One of the single best mods done to the truck. Tune helped mpg, matching other mods for max benefits, and the drivability is hands down improved.

awesome! I'm planning a 4200 swap into my 1970 GMC, I think I'd like a bit more power though. still weighing my options.
