I’ve been wanting to up my game when it comes to rear hatch lighting for cooking or just hanging out. For several years I have been using a bicycle seat post lamp that is attached to the rear lift gate handle. It charges with a sub-mini and provides a nice warm red glow. But life if limited to a few hours.

I have been looking for another option and was set to hard wire a rock light or clearance light. While at Mountain Expo I was surprised to see so many using rechargeable led strip lights in their trailers or campers. No need to drill holes or run wires or, for me, dismantling all the trim around the rear window and rear hatch to run permanent wiring. So I found these.

I utilized the supplied metal brackets with 3M double back tape to secure the strip to the rear glass, at the same height as the rear wiper blade. This way if I what to remove it I am cleaning the glass, not the plastic trim. Lots of light
And if you walk away from the truck, the motion sensor will kill the light if you have it set to that mode…. All the better for fewer bugs!
