2008 4x4 Sportsmobile E350

That does answer my question, very thoroughly.

At present, my 3 boys are age 7 and under so we could probably make it work. Unfortunately, my daydreaming gets in the way of reality. Traveling for any length of time in a van, even one as sweet as yours, with five people would be interesting to say the least...

My family did 6 weeks in a 3/4 ton 2wd Ford Econoline (early 70's era) van, three years running, plus many smaller trips. Three kids (ages 3-10 when we started, 6-13 about the time we finished), two adults, and nowhere near as well kitted out as this sportsmobile. And it was the family second car. We did fine, and those are some of my fondest memories (I was the middle child).

This is a very nice rig, but my trips will always be considerable lower budget.

Here is another shot showing the roof layout. BTW, this is one of our favorite spots.

I've had some inquiries related to the upper sleeping area. This shot shows one of the three panels for the upper sleeping area in place. The other two set in front of this one to create the upper sleeping area.

Can't believe your selling the R' Rig Andy. Your platform is what i'm pondering about when we are ready to purchase another Rig. Who ever purchases your SMB will be so stoked!

It just seems like the right time for us. Thanks for your kind words.

A great SMB Andy.
Funny, after all the time on the trail I have never actually seen the inside before the pics you have posted here, it's just great! The condition of the rig is most impressive, no doubt the upkeep and maintenance has been impeccable!

Your SMG is my desktop background, Andy. Unfortunately, that's as close as I will come to your rig.

Best of luck with the sale and whoever buys the beast must keep the rest of us apprised of her travels.

it still makes me cry to think of someone else driving this, but they will be getting a great rig

It is with mixed emotions that I report on the sale of our Sportsmobile. A fine gentlemen purchased it and I'm sure that he and his wife will enjoy it.

I'd like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all who have posted and commented here on the Portal. This place was a huge help as we considered the build and was a great resource as we planned adventures.

We would have kept the Sportsmobile as it was perfect in every way. We put almost 75,000 miles on it in the two years of ownership. Our plan is to continue to log those kind of miles, if not more in the future. We felt that it would be the right thing to sell the rig to someone who was going to log "normal" miles and therefore be able to enjoy it for many years.

For those that are interested, we are going to purchse an International 7500 4x4 truck chassis with single rear wheels that is rated to roll for around 1,000,000 miles. We are planning to commision Global Expedition Vehicles (GXV) http://www.globalxvehicles.com to attach a camper / cabin on that for our living space. Stay tuned for more on that.

Thank you again and I hope for all, a very Happy New Year!

Andy
