Korean. Ssaygyong has some of the ugliest cars on the road, have seen on the road here.

Sounds like they've got the same diesel engine as Jeep used, so getting an engine for it would at least be possible

Ssangyong is a South Korean company. This model was never designed for USA emissions and safety regulations. So the chance of registering for use on the street is zero, unless you're willing to spend tens of thousands for conversion by a licensed vehicle importer.
The Youtube videos linked in the ad show an absolutely spotless truck with no engine or transmission, with masking tape with handwritten notes hanging off the undercarriage. For $2300, you could use it as the basis of a tube buggy.
