2008 Tac Dbl cab tires....

Hi there, I'm sure this has been asked and answered a few times already.... but after looking and not finding the answer... I thought I'd just go ahead and ask you guys anyway! I've got a 2008 DBL Cab TRD Sport with stock 17" wheels and suspension. I'm looking at getting new tires, and I was wondering if I can fit Cooper Discoverer S/T 275/70/17's without a lift or mods? I know I can fit the 265/70/17, just not sure if there's room for anything bigger without making any changes to the stock set up. I'm planning on getting a OME lift next, but it's one step at a time.... Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks!!

I think I would go ahead and get the OME suspension first, then the tires if it were me.

The local dealership here will sell brand new trucks with OME suspensions as a dealer installed item. The ones I've seen on their showroom have 285's.

Thanks for the response, but unfortunately I've got another problem. I live in the North East and the tires that came with the truck aren't cutting it any longer this winter with all the snow we’re getting. So, it's gonna have to be tires first then lift. I'll probably just go with the 265/70/17's but I thought maybe somebody had tried the larger size without mods. Cheers.

If you can tough it out this winter and wait for the lift, I think you'll be happier in the long run with the increased clearance of 33" tires, whether they be 255s or 285s.

You can run the 275 tires with some trimming on a stock truck. You will need to remove your mud flaps or they will be removed for you. I ran 255/85r16s on a stock truck which are taller but narrower than the 275s. I haven't been that impressed with the Discover S/Ts on ice.

I just pulled the trigger on a set of 265/70/17 Dura Trac's! Should be here in a couple of days:wings: Looks like I'll be able to test 'em out in the snow over the weekend! Thanks for all the help!

Congrats,you'll love the GY Duratracs.

I just picked up a set last Friday,I chose 285/70-17's and was able to test them offroad and in the snow over the weekend and have about 600 miles on them already.

They handled flawlessly in both situations.:sombrero:

Just got back from getting the tires mounted! I'll post some pics tomorrow. It's only the first step, and I've got a long way to go with the rest of the rig, but it sure felt good driving home on a new set of Duratracs....:victory:

Looking forward to the pics. They sound like a good option for my 08DC also. Load range C or E?

So, here are the new tires installed. Load range C. Haven't had the time to really test them out yet, but there's about 2" of solid ice and snow with deep ruts in my driveway that I can make in 2WD no prob! Wasn't doing that with my stock tires. I'm going to head into the woods tomorrow and give them a real test in the snow. I think I'll be impressed based on what I've seen so far! Now I'm looking for a set of used 17" steel wheels to put them on....:ylsmoke: Anyone know if stock FJ Cruiser steelies fit on 08 Tacomas? Seems like you can find them used pretty cheap, and they've got a six lug pattern.

But but but, it's not a white truck, gosh

Looks very sharp.

Any rubbing? Did you already remove the front mudflaps before hand?

I'm liking it.

No rubbing so far, but I haven't taken it off road yet. I don't think I'll see any though. Seems to be plenty of room. I took the front mud-flaps off the other day. They were catching on the snow banks up here and I figured they were probably going rip off if I wasn't careful. The back ones don't seem to be as big of a problem, but I'll probably replace them with soft ones that won't tear off....
