Toyota showed the "SE" version of the FJ Cruiser at SEMA. The Special Edition is better equipped for off-road use.

TRD 16 inch alloy wheels (beadlock is simulation only)
BF Goodrich AT tires
Bilstein shock absorbers, tuned for off-road use
Rear differential lock and ATRAC
Front and Rear skid plate
Rock rails
larger air cleaner
Garmin GPS navigation
black-out paint on the hood
SE interior trim

It seems to me that many of the features of the SE are
available as individual options today. Delivery of the
FJ Cruiser SE is scheduled for Spring 2009.

Where can we find specific info on the larger air cleaner?

The FJ Cruiser is really based on the 4Runner/Prado/120 platfrom and shares common frame and drivetrain components. It is really not a Land Cruiser.

Maybe they are just pre-installing a TRD air intake and calling it "larger" for the sake of advertising. Similar to specifying premium gas in order to list a few more horsepower for the exact same GR series engine as the 4Runner.

BUT... Cna you get it in a 5spd, WITHOUT full time 4wd. That would make it a great truck IMO, FT-4WD is just something I'm not a fan of unless it's in a Rally Car.

Gotta say, I'm a little disappointed. I don't mind Sandstorm, but was hoping for a more 'exotic' color.

IMO that's the best color there is for a 4x4. Exotic colors bring to mind chrome'd out domestic mud trucks with multi-colored flame jobs ;)

Any old argument with no weight to it. I have heard all the purists talk crap about the FJC. If you look at Pg. 61 in the book on the development from concept to reality (you can buy it at Specter Off Road), you will see a picture of the FJ which says "LAND CRUISER" in the picture just above the vehicle. Also as you said yourself, the FJ is based on the 120 series LAND CRUISER Prado platform. The 4Runner also shares some of the 120 series DNA. However you will note there is no "Cruiser" anywhere in the 4Runner name. The name FJ draws it's name from the old FJ40, but I am sure you already know that. As well, if you look at the Toyotas Land Cruiser dateline and model history, the FJ Cruiser is actually the USA's answer to the 90 series, and is listed there.

Now, on the subject at hand, the 2009 FJC SE...... no big deal. If they had included beefier suspension components like UCAs and LCAs, LIFT, 33" BFG Mud Terrains and even a SNORKEL option with a real roof rack, then I would consider something like that a SE.

I think the manual transmission model has full time 4WD.

... the baited hook dangles irresistable and gleaming in the pond

(The following is all in good fun)

So a "PT Cruiser" is a "LAND CRUISER" by that stretch of word association logic? :bike_rider:

You will see there is no "Land" anywhere in the "FJ Cruiser" name :safari-rig: and you won't see the FJ mentioned anywhere here
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toyota_Land_Cruiser

As for a 4Runner sharing "some" DNA from the Prado? Make a list and you'll see virtually identical line-ups of frame, axles, transmissions, engine and so on. The FJ is a really pared down 4Runner. The 4Runner was the first to be based on the Prado in 2003 so I guess it has more years of Prado DNA in it.

And I truly like the 4Runner badge without "land" or "cruiser" in it as its history is clearly tied to 1980s Broncos (got one) and Blazers, both pickup based platforms. If I wanted a Land Cruiser I'd get one of these:

Now can anyone answer the real question about the vague references to a larger air filter on the SEMA displayed FJ?
