Yawn!! Looks like it would be a little too "at home" on the freeways.. I still wouldn't complain if I got one for free though.

... yeah, it's got a solid axle... I don't know about the motor, but if it's a Diesel, that may be the perfect new truck. Just need to beef up the frame to old Mini-truck standards.

Cheers

(The following is all in good fun)

So a "PT Cruiser" is a "LAND CRUISER" by that stretch of word association logic? :bike_rider:

You will see there is no "Land" anywhere in the "FJ Cruiser" name :safari-rig: and you won't see the FJ mentioned anywhere here
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toyota_Land_Cruiser

As for a 4Runner sharing "some" DNA from the Prado? Make a list and you'll see virtually identical line-ups of frame, axles, transmissions, engine and so on. The FJ is a really pared down 4Runner. The 4Runner was the first to be based on the Prado in 2003 so I guess it has more years of Prado DNA in it.

And I truly like the 4Runner badge without "land" or "cruiser" in it as its history is clearly tied to 1980s Broncos (got one) and Blazers, both pickup based platforms.

Yeah, and the new 200 series Land Cruiser is a Tundra because it shares Tundra stuff too. All companies share things across their platforms. Do you think there is a whole lot of difference between the LR3 Land Rover and their Range Rover Sport for instance?

Like I said, look at the Toyota page, and look at the Toyota drawing board where LAND is clearly stated in the first drawings of the FJ. "LAND CRUISER".

Now I understand why you had to leave your local cruiser Club......

It would make sense that they went with a TRD cold air intake so that it can be covered by the truck's factory warranty.

It would eliminate the cyclone pre-filter and that would be too bad. They work great! Hopefully someone at the show will get the hood open....

And with that logic you are driving a freaking Corolla! Toyota has long shared components in all of their models of vehicles. Look at door handles, switches, AC controls, radios, speaker covers, emergency brake handles. This is why they are the number 1 car company in the world. Economically this makes sense and most owners don't get upset that their LC has the same interior door handle as a Corolla. I just cringe when I look at some of the domestics with their round or oval radios and other unique controls. Where will those owners get parts in 20 years? Oh I forgot they won't last that long.

Toyota can call it anything they want, since they make it they get to name it. It is an FJ Cruiser not a Land Cruiser. If they wanted to call it a Land Cruiser they would have called it a Land Cruiser.

They are now including the FJ in their lineage of the Land Cruiser http://www.toyota.com/vehicles/minisite/landcruiser/flash3.html They need a new freaking historian though, they have lots of mistakes. They have FJ55s listed as starting in 1967. And 60 series not until 82. I could go through and list all the mistakes but that would take forever. The first time they did this Heritage I emailed the webmaster and Toyota and sent them like 2 pages of corrections. So maybe it was a mistake it was included? Well I guess they make no mention of it actually being built as it only goes to 2005.

Look guys.... I really, really like The Portal and all of its denizens and this thread has started to take an unfortunate turn because of me even though I was truly kidding about FJ's. LC/LR4Life and I have more in common than has been openly discussed (rappelling/Toyotas/expeditions) but my guess is that he's just had some bad days and any name calling was just a slip. I had never looked at a picture of a 90 series until now so right there I learned something interesting. The lineage discussion does have some merit. Its just that the feelings that it inadvertently stirred up are now distracting us.

This really was a SEMA FJ-SE oriented thread but its headed towards an unfortuante turn that I'd like to see back on track or at least be a "healthy hijack". (I ought to trademark that)
Whaddya' say? How about the ol' agree to disagree route or maybe start a Fireside Chat about the FJ Lineage?

I can confirm according to the TRD guy I spoke with at SEMA. He said "unless the market changes in the next year you will not be seeing the FJ anymore".

Considering new models and revamps are things automotive engineers spend years on I think its safe to say the FJ is one and done. Sorry to see it go, this is seriously one of the most capable trail vehicles I've ever seen and a lot of fun to drive, along with having a great community of drivers.

Too bad they refuse to offer an efficient diesel option on that. I'd bet they would sell a few more.

Yeah, come on guys - 'kiss & make up'..............play nice!!

Personally, I gotta agree with 4Rescue - heres an idea Mr Toyota - MAKE WHAT THE PEOPLE WANT - A DECENT TOYOTA 4WD VEHICLE WITH A SOLID FRONT END!!! We know ya CAN do it - you've done it in the past!!!

I'd be more than happy for ya to ditch the bitumin-bunny poser-mobile FJ Cruiser in order for THAT to happen............!!!

And, IMHO - a FJC is NOT a 'proper' Landcruiser - Toyota can call it whatever they like in order to 'satisfy' the market its being sold in, but if its not built on a proper full-size chassis - it ain't a 'real' Landcruiser from where I'm seeing things...........its a 'wanna-be'. Prado falls in same catogry.......;)

Wahoo - flamesuit is on guys.............:) :) :)

Yeah they are putting the fj curiser out to pasture. If you look at the Toyota lineup, they have the LC200, the 4runner, the rav4, the sequoia, and the fj for SUVs. Now if you look at the trucks.... the tundra and the tacoma..... doesnt that seem a little lopsided? i think a midsized solid axel truck would foot the bill nicely.

Well...it's good to see that folks have the flame retardant suits on...but I've got the mod button, so let's chill on the "is the FJ a Land Cruiser" debate, which could go on ad nauseum.....

I'm not sure how long even the 4Runner/Prado can last with a solid rear axle. Look how big the Rav4 is getting now. A while back someone used to take full-sized Broncos, stretch them and add two doors to make a Bronco-burbin. Maybe a specialty shop will have to mod Tacomas with a rear shell and a solid front axle to get back to something trail worthy?
