2010 Mitsubishi Outlander GT

For 2010, Mitsubishi has a new version of the Outlander GT, its midsize SUV.
This vehicle gives the turbocharged Subaru Forester some competition as a
fun-to-drive utility vehicle that can handle the occasional dirt road.

The good news for 2010 is that the Outlander gets electronically controlled
center and front differentials. The center diff shifts power to front or rear as
traction permits. The front diff increases power to the front wheel that's on
the outside of the turn. The result: maximum traction, and neutral handling.

This "Super All Wheel Control" system is similar to the system used in the Mitsubishi
Evo, everybody's favorite inexpensive sports sedan. The Outlander
GT also gets an Evo-like grill and bumper (not very attractive, IMO.)

Here's a review of the Outlander GT. The driving impressions are toward
the end of the article.

And here's a track test from Edmunds Inside Line

The Outlander GT has an MSRP right at $30,000.

"no low gear"

Like I said above, the Outlander is a fun-to-drive utility vehicle that can handle the occasional dirt road. It's not meant for mud slogging or stump jumping. Think European Rally Championship, not Rubicon Trail.

We had the 2008 AWC model and I loved it! My wife traded it in on a Lexus RX 350. She admits that the Mitsu handled much better in the snow. I loved the paddle shifters and driving it up the canyon. If one could get past the low profile tires the new S-AWC would do well on dirt/mud roads.
