Hay all! Love this site! Well, I just pulled the trigger on a 2011 Dodge 3500 Laramie CC long box 4x4. She just turned 2000 miles. I'm wondering if anyone has knowledge and information about how I could turn this into an expo/overlanding machine. I realize not everyone picks a huge-*** truck like this but I'm one of the few who did. I just read the top 10 mods to do to your vehicle on here and I could begin there I guess. This should be fun. Help! Thanks, Walt

-on board air compressor, something as simple as a mv-50 does wonders.
-Tow points front and rear, and a long strong tow strap
-Good long handle shovel
-larger tires. Personally I think fullsize trucks need a much larger tire to allow them to float in soft ground if the truck is 7000lbs+
-Full size spare, finding an efficient space to store it is the hard part.
-Rear mounted winch? With a truck that big if you get stuck you should probably be trying to go back the way you came.
-low profile camper shell
-Simple rear storage and sleeping arrangement
-Good suspension, running dirt roads for thousands of miles takes it toll
-A good tool kit and the common parts that can put you out of the game.

Welcome brother. You aren't the only one running a full size long bed truck.. I've got an 04 Ram 2500 CTD long bed quad cab 4x4 that gets used for overland and camping trips. It's gone just about any place I've wanted it too, but it does take a little more finesse than a smaller rig would.

Winch and snatch block, if you do get stuck. I have powered out my winch more than once. I have used both a front and rear winch nice to have both but if I can have only one it would be front with roller fair lead, then the cable can be strung under the vehicle if you must go back.

I am from the school of dig. Tall narrow tires, but the area I spend most of my time is Rocky mountain clay and gravel.

What kind of camping are you planning on doing? Kids, family etc. You can pull a camper and use that as a base camp and then unhook and head out for day trips on the trail. Get a truck cap and a simple sleeping/storage platform in the bed. Just starting on my 3500 also!

I have a Power Wagon and trailer and Maxcfm has a 3500 diesel dually with a RTT on the back.

You can wheel the barge; just call ahead for tugboats...
