I bought this truck in 2021 from a dealer that took it in from the original owner with 94,000 miles. The dealer installed a 6" Rough Country lift kit, new 20" rims and new 35"x12.5" MT tires. I had the same dealer install Rough Country Vertex Coil-over shocks with 8-stage adjustability. As the platform for my overland build, the truck started with a fiberglass topper, custom built rack and Roofnest Sparrow XL RTT (available for sale as well). After a while, we decided to purchase the Travel Lite camper. It had some damage from water infiltration and condensation. I rebuilt all of the affected areas and reinforced tie down points to be better than new. I had Rough Country air bags and new, stronger leaf springs installed (5 pack). From the factory, the dry weight is 1290lbs. I replaced the AC unit (included) with a Maxx fan to save weight and because we never hook up to shore power. The 13 gallon fresh water tank was replaced with a new 33 gallon tank with gravity fill and no city water connection. The lead acid battery and converter were replaced with a 200ah Lithium Iron Phosphate Renogy Core battery, Epever 40amp solar charge controller, Xantrax 1000watt inverter, Victron distribution and fusing and Renogy 20amp DC to DC charger. There is a 150watt rigid solar panel mounted to the roof and 2 portable panels to chase the sun. 200watt Bluetti suitcase and a 200watt Renogy flexible panel. I also installed the Guzzle H2O water filtration system with UVC sterilization. The roof was Rhino-lined as new so the roof has never leaked.
Truck Specs:
VIN: 1FTFW1EF1BFC74657
2011 F150 FX4 Crew Cab
5.0 V8 6spd Auto
push-button manual
Wildtraxx Land Spider MT 35x12.5 tires (full size spare w steel wheel) mounted underbed
Scorpion 20" wheels
RC Vertex Coil-overs
Rancho upper control arms
RC N3 rear shocks
leaf springs:
Spring Capacity = 2500 lbs
# of Leaves = 5(4/1)
RC Air Bags which are crucial for carrying this camper on a lifted truck. Keeping the truck level maintains accurate steering and the bags support the weight in turns and the ride is comfortable.
This truck has many cosmetic flaws from mounting solar panels to the roof of the cab, tie down straps rubbing the paint, small rust spots on the body that have been line-X'd over and above the windshield, superficial rusting on frame and exhaust, etc. A few holes have been drilled here and there for routing cables and mounting gear in the box. The interior is in decent shape, there are some stains on the upholstery but everything works, power seats, windows, good AC, stereo/CD/Bluetooth, AC plug in console. Speedometer was not adjusted with the upgrade to bigger tires so use GPS for speedometer. Although there are these cosmetic blemishes, the truck is solid and runs great. It has not failed me in any way. All maintenance has been performed on schedule with full synthetic oil changes, recent coolant flush and new front brakes. Tires have 36,000 miles on them with some life left (see pics).
Camper Specs:
33 gallon fresh water tank
Guzzle H2O Stealth carbon block/LED UVC
Fridge is a Dometic 3-way that is most efficient on propane
Suburban 2-burner propane stove
Propane furnace
Comes with original AC unit that has been replaced with a Maxx Fan
Roof is Rhino-lined and has zero issues
20lb propane tank runs the stove, fridge and links to an outdoor shower for an on-demand hot water heater or outdoor cooking.
We removed the folding couch, platform and table for custom made cushions and installed an adjustable table to serve a number of functions.
The sleeping area is 48" x 84" with a flip-up cushion that gives another 12" of bed width. That cushion flipped down serves as a back rest when sitting on the bench.
The bed consists of a 1" high-end Tochta Hy-PUR-Flo Condensation mat that keeps it dry under the bed, 5" of firm foam mattress and 2" of memory foam topper.
Because it's built to be self-sufficient off grid, there is no shore power or city water connection.
