Expedition Leader
The folks at JeepGarage.org have posted details about the redesigned Grand Cherokee. It will be sold as a 2011 model starting in June. http://jeepgarage.org/showthread.php?t=4482

Autoblog has a good set of photos of the new Grand http://www.autoblog.com/gallery/2011-jeep-grand-cherokee/
And Jalopnik has some Rubicon Trail test shots http://jalopnik.com/5460910/2011-grand-cherokee-on-the-rubicon//gallery/1

Some items of note:
-- a new two speed (low range) transfer case for 5.7L V8
-- improved approach/departure/breakover angles
-- Off Road Group II (requires Trailer Tow)
* P265/60R18 Owl On/Off Road Tires
* 18X8.0 Aluminum Wheels (Full Polish)
* Electronic Ltd Slip Differential, Rear Axle
* Heavy Duty Engine Cooling (w/5.7L)
* Hill Descent Control
* Michelin Brand Tires
* Quadra-Drive II 4WD System
* Quadra-Lift Air Suspension
* Selec-Terrain System
* Spare Tire, Full Size with Steel Spare Wheel
* Tow Hooks (Front and Rear)
* Trail Rated Badge
* Skid Plate Group (Fuel Tank, Transfer Case, Front Suspension, Underbody)

Looks like the cheapest combination with off-road capability would be
Laredo X $37,955
5.7L V8 $1645
Off-Road Group II $2270
Class 4 Trailer Tow $880
Total $42,750

This isn't a bad price for a vehicle with air suspension.

Base engine will be the new 3.6L V6. That's good news for the Wrangler!

Edit: Allpar thinks the two speed transfer case will be available with the V6 as well as V8
So the cheapest "trail rated" Grand Cherokee model could be about $40,000

It's a car, with even more electronic doodads on there than before, and now with the ever-narrowing windows in the rear sides and the perfectly rounded body. They're late to the game with that rear-side-window look. Other people are doing it, and I hate it. The interior makes it even more a car. They've destroyed the Jeep with models that progress in the car direction.

I'll stick with my IH Scout II.

Or, if we can ever get something like this... With 4 doors and a longer cargo area. THAT is what they're supposed to look like. If you want an SUV-sized car, go buy a Suburban or an Escalade. Don't ruin the Jeep...
