Thanks Pat!

I think jumping the Jeep from the trailer would be easily accomplished with a Warn wiring kit. I've seen people wire a winch with powerlines that have a plug-in jumper cable option. Having long enough cables would be paramount for success in this modification. I'll toss this one to Matt to see what he thinks. I liked his JK build enough to email him to see if he would do the mods on my MOAB. Since I'm not likely to be in good enough condition to get the rack on by Winter, I'll let them do it. My mother-in-law doesn't live far from them, so I can plan a weekend for the wife to visit her mom and get my stuff done. That's a double win for me!

My plans for the trailer also include a small Honda generator. Those can become handy very quickly when you are out and about. I'd like to have on-board air available on the trailer has well. A solar system to charge the deep cycle batteries while wheeling is a must have. As I have mentioned before, the trailer will carry extra fuel for the Jeep, a small a Rokon motorcycle, fuel for the bike and propane for cooking. My AEV bumper will carry 5 gallons of water (mostly for hand washing ) but the trailer will carry much more and a chemical toilet and shower to keep the wife happy.

Like everyone else, I just want to be self sufficent with this setup.

My surgery has not allowed me to do much on my Schutt Industries trailer but I've been slowly doing just a little on it. I have started working on removing the bodywork on the right side. There is still much to do. All of the bodywork will now be removed. I feel that it will be easier to make a new box for it. One of my new additions is to extend the trailer tongue. These pictures just show some preliminary work. A 2" steel insert is used to index the tongue extension. I have decided to use the pictured 2" hitch on the back and purchase new 2"x3" steel to extend the tongue. This will be much stronger and easier to do. 3" steel plate will be used to strengthen the tongue on each side as well.

EDIT: A 3" channel bracket 4" long will be welded to the tongue extension. A pintle hitch will bolt into the channel and have 4" of adjustability. This should work well with my current pintle hitch and allow me to upgrade to a Lock an' Roll hitch at anytime.

The upgrades to the Jeep never happened. I had to go on disability and didn't 't have the extra cash. Sometimes life gets in the way of our plans.

Just wanted to report that I went back to work on Dec 16th. The leg is doing better but still hurts me quite a bit. I have a new slimmer brace that fits under jeans and works well.

I hope to be back into the trailer build shortly. There is still much to buy for it but I hope to get the rest of the aluminum bodywork removed soon. I've been looking for 2.5"x3.5"x.25" rectangular steel tubing but have been unsuccessful. If anyone has a source for this please let me know where to find it.

Thanks!

Thanks k9lestat! It looks like I'll be in physical therapy for another 12 months. I'm getting around very well. No wheelchair or crutches anymore but if do much walking, I have to use a cane. If I go with the family to the Mall, for example. It's great to be back to work though!

Hi Sam, I'm the product manager for Schutt Industries XVENTURE Trailers. How's your build coming along? Anything I can help you with?

Wow! Thanks for the offer Markimus! I do need a couple of Schutt Industries mud flaps. When I talked with Steve Schutt he mentioned 5x5" brake conversion kits for the military trailers. Have you guys worked that out? I've recently thought about keeping the TorFlex axle.

Actually, I am getting ready to start back into the build. I have lengthened the tongue with 2" receiver tubing. Just need to finish up the welding with that. The rest of the body still needs to be removed. The cold and the snow have kept me from working on it.

Again, I appreciate the offer. Do you have a contact number that I should use?

Hi Sam,
The snow and cold this year is incredible eh? Definitely a project stopper. I do a lot of aerial photography and I haven't been able to fly in weeks. Oh well spring is almost here.

Is there a singe link to get me caught up with your wants and intended use for this trailer?

So we are on the same page, looks like you have one of our LTT-TQG trailers. That chassis will handle a 7000LB payload. The 4200LB rating is just that axil. Change the axil to whatever you want.

I'll dig up some mud flaps for you. I need to check on the exact size you need for the TQG. I think the ones I designed for the XVENTURE will work great. They look really nice and will last.

I would recommend you stick with the Torsion axle. There's virtually no other independent suspension thats more reliable or as maintenance free. They're relatively inexpensive too. The little known trick to get them to provide a superior ride is to try and load them to at least 80% of rating. Have you figured out what your average payload will be for this trailer? The rolling chassis with a swapped out axil should weigh in around 1200LBS.

Toss the pintle hitch, I'd highly recommend you go to a MaxHitch tri-axis hitch. However to install that item properly you'll need to maintain the 2.5 x 3.5 drawbar tube. Why do you want to extend the drawbar?

Finally, go to electric brakes and this unit will be a gem. We should be able to get you into a new Torsion axle with electric brakes in the 350 or less range. You will need a brake controller installed in your primary tow vehicle. I have to say that electrically controlled breaks on these trailer is a completely different driving experience over inertia brakes. Not only off road up and down small hill and rock trail trekking, but also mountain paved roads, high speed highway driving, and in congested city traffic. All thats probably the best 500 bux you'll spend on this chassis.

Thanks,
Mark

When I talked with Steve, he mentioned that the company had looked at the Timbren suspension system. I really like that setup. The main frame rails on my trailer are 56" wide. The stock TorFlex axle is much wider than my 2013 Jeep 2-Dr MOAB tow vehicle. The Timbren suspension would allow me to decrease the track width fairly easily and keep the frame as is. With the new suspension, electric brakes, hubs and spacers, I'll be into it for only $850.

As for lengthening the trailer tongue. I would like to be able to turn the trailer 90 degrees on a trail, without the Jeep getting into it. I also plan to add some fuel cans up there and space is limited. You never know what you might get into. I considered extending the 2.5"x3.5" drawbar but could not find that size tubing.

Thanks again for the help!
