Hi Sam, we can provide you with the 2.5 x 3.5 1/4 wall tubing if you like. It's mostly all we use for the LTT line.

Do I understand you correctly that you are going to reduce the tracking width on this chassis? The whole chassis or just the wheel distance? Keep in mind that all LTT trailer we engineered to track behind a military HUMVEE which is 72.5 inches. Your Jeep track is approximately 63.5. If you look at all the specs of our XVENTURE XV-2 they are precisely engineered to track a Jeep JK. If you are going to narrow the trailer I would recommend trying to get as close to those specs as possible. We should talk about these modification as it can get a little tricky.

Integrating the Timbren system into our trailers is something I brought to the table after meeting with them at SEMA last year. Frankly the jury is out on that design as far as I am concerned. It's expensive once you add hubs and brakes. I feel the superior system would be a similar design but with complete air adjustability. And that type of design starts bringing the price up. So this topic always leads me back to the Torsion axle design. It's the most reliable, cost effective, and easy to implement. Again the trick is to choose the proper axil weight rating.

Is the plan to build a full enclosure on this platform?

Thanks,
Mark

Markimus,
I would like to reduce the width of the wheel mounting surface, brake flange to brake flange to match up with the 63.5" of my Jeep JK. The width of the trailer will just be changed by cutting the outside frame tubing. Nothing structural! The frame rails are 56" wide. Those will not be touched. If I had a Hummer, I wouldn't touch this trailer. It's very large behind my Jeep. I have already purchased MOPAR Winter wheels for the trailer. Rubicon wheels may go on it later.

How much does a 3500# TorFlex axle cost? I can't see it being less than the $579 Timbren suspension.

Yes, I just plan to build a box and cover it with the same style cover you guys use on the XVenture XV-2. I'd love to have one of the XV-2 trailers but it's just too pricey for me right now. That's why I bought this one. I would like to be able to haul my new ATV and a Rokon Trailbreaker at the same time. A motorcycle hitch hauler will go on the rear receiver that I am planning.

Mark Hartley,
Thanks, I'm doing much better!

I am putting together an axil conversion kit that will give you all the proper replacement axil, axil mounting plates, electric brakes, and manual brake cables to retrofit that chassis with the proper 64" track width and weight rating. You'd have to grind off some rivets and maybe do a little welding but this will turn your LTT into the proper specs for your Jeep. Trying to meet the $450 price point for this kit.

You have a 4200lb axil in the trailer now correct?

That is AWESOME! Yes, it's the 4200lb Dexter TorFlex. I'd be willing to give someone a great deal on my 4200lb TorFlex axle.

Sorry that I haven't been responding very quickly. I'm out of town with my wife.

No worries Sam. If that department isn't properly maintained all bets are off. Hope you are having a great time.

RTT, rack to hold and raise RTT, fuel carriers, water tank, hot water heater, solar panels, battery system, drawers for refrigerator and pull-out kitchen, spare tire, motorcycle carrier, Rokon motorcycle and whatever else I can think of.

EDIT: Basically, everything goes in the trailer. Luggage, food, clothes, etc...

RTT - 120lbs
Rack - 100lbs
20 Gallons of Fuel - 125lbs
20 Gallons Water - 160lbs
Solar Panels - 40lbs
Battery System - 100lbs
Drawers - 60 lbs
Fridge - 50lbs
Galley - 50lbs
Spare Tire - 60lbs
Motorcycle - 500lbs
Propane System - 60lbs

Total 1445lbs
Trailer GVW 2645lbs-ish Loaded

I'd recommend a 2700lb Torsion Axil. 2800 tops.

You'll want on-demand water heater instead of a tank unless you do not intend on integrating Propane into your trailer.

My plan is to use a propane system for the cookstove and the on-demand hot water heater. The trailer will be used for family trips to the Hatfield & McCoy ATV park. We may actually haul bicycles too.

Mark,
I modified your list to include: luggage, bicycles, a bicycle rack, a Rokon motorcycle and a Polaris ATV. The trailer will be used to haul these on family trips to the Hatfield & McCoy Off-Road ATV Park. It's still pretty close to the original weight estimate.

RTT - 120lbs
Rack - 100lbs
20 Gallons of Fuel - 125lbs
20 Gallons Water - 160lbs
Solar Panels - 40lbs
Battery System - 100lbs
Drawers - 60 lbs
Fridge - 50lbs
Galley - 50lbs
Spare Tire - 60lbs
Rokon Motorcycle - 225lbs
Polaris ATV - 500lbs
Propane System - 60lbs
Luggage - 100lbs
Bicycles & Rack - 100lbs

Total: 1850lbs
Trailer GVW: 3050lbs-ish loaded

Today, I did some major disassembly on my Schutt military trailer. The rest of the body components were removed. This trailer originally carried a generator for the US Army behind a HumVee. The problem with that is, the fact that it's just too wide to track behind my Jeep. I am now looking at a cost effective way to reduce the width between the outside frame rails. The current width is 56.5" including the .25" suspension mounting plates. These plates and all the 4200# suspension components will be removed shortly. My build has been slow due to Winter and other factors. I hope to get moving along now that the weather has been somewhat better.
