2011 Taco, couple of questions

My question is, who has removed their subwoofer, any tricks to it? I don't think the stereo really needs it, from what I can tell, it doesn't add much to the sound.

I'm going to build a platform for behind the seats similar to http://www.expeditionportal.com/forum/showpost.php?p=178676&postcount=56 . I want to make all the room I can in the cab for secure storage.

Also ordered my cap yesterday. Going with an ARE MX, with the vented windoors and walk-in door http://www.4are.com/product/walkin/ . When I build my sleeping platform I plan on making a pull out that will take the place of the tailgate for light duties. Looks like I'll need to remove the bed rail caps to have the cap sit properly for a good seal. Sill trying to find a shop to LineX the bed for less then $500. That seems a bit high, what have others paid recently to have a spray in liner done?

I took mine out as well. I asked my dealer for the manual pages and he gave them to me as a pdf. I will try to attach for you.

I have two Australian Cattle dogs and I needed that space for them. I would have liked to have another solution for the sub woofer but it isn't a priority right now. I removed the rear seats, the belts everything leaving only the stowage spaces. I built a carpeted platform so I could access my winch gear and other things I wanted handy through hatches in the platform not unlike the link you posted (but not quite as elegant). I posted my project but I am unable to relocate it with the search feature. I'd be interested to see how you go about your platform.

PS I bought a new cap and thought as you do about removing the bed rails to level the attachment surface but my installer had a plug that filled the space nearest the cab on the box. Doesn't the 2011's have the fiberglass box (mine is a 2010) so I wonder why you wanted a spray in liner? I bought a Toyota fitted rubber mat for mine to stop everything from being so lively back there.

I don't know how its mounted in a Taco, but I removed mine from a FJ Cruiser and it was only held on by 4 bolts and had to disconnect the wiring plug and subwoofer switch. I could hardly tell when the subwoofer was on, it definately did not shake the rig like a good sub should so I decided I could use the space/wieght it was wasting for gear that I would use. Sold the sub on the FJ forum with exchanges of plastic trim pieces so I'am happy, don't miss it at all.

As for the liner, I guess it's just what I've always done, so didn't really think of other options. I'll just have to mark that as a DUH, moment... thanks for pointing out another option. I'll be building a sleeping platform in the bed also, so it may not be an issue. Just keep the mat handy for when I need to use it as a real truck.

Did taking the sub out mess up the stereo sound any? I don't think it adds much, just curious.

Taking out the sub changed the bass experience but I wasn't used to it so I don't miss it neither do the dogs ;o) I wish I could remove the disk changer as well to make room for other gadgets but I think that is there to stay. Let us know how the extraction goes.

Bill - Nice find, thank you. I had looked at them the other evening, it was getting dark so I didn't spend much time at it. But I had come to the conclusion it wasn't going to be a "simple" remove the headrests.
