2012 Touareg TDI - Help

The powerplant and drivetrain are perfect for overlanding, the 2012 remodel dropped about 800# off the previous TDI curb weight, but it seems like two years later nobody has made anything for it yet. Please help. I'm about ready to give up and sell it.

Does anyone know of lift kits, air suspension kits, roof racks, winch mounts, rock sliders, etc made for the current model type Touareg?

Hate to be a buzz kill but there are no real options for the second gen touareg. I've read some threads over on the VW forums and the most you can really do is fit some more aggressive tires. Other than that you'll have to go the full custom route.

I was looking at options regarding the new Touareg/Cayenne and I really couldn't come up with anything. The first gen had some aftermarket direct from Volkswagen. There is one guy here in the states that has imported the factory rear tire carrier, but other than that I haven't seen anything crazy. You could probably put a rack, lights, and fab some sliders and skids pretty easily. In regards to lifting it though I don't know if anyone has done a second gen. You could always be the first guy.

Yeah, I am asking and scouring the club touareg forums to no avail. Sliders and skids will be cake, but getting tire clearance is going to suck without a tried and true lift. I still can't believe VW sells a 62K SUV without an air suspension. Cheap, stupid, USA division of a breakout company.

Wouldn't a steel-sprung setup be more reliable and cheaper to maintain than air suspension? Every time I see a mercedes or land rover riding the bump stops driving down the street I imagine how stupid they would feel if it had happened out in the middle of nowhere...

My point is for $62K USD, every SUV on the market has an adjustable air suspension that auto levels for towing except the Touareg. As for reliability, I don't know of a proper air suspension that fails any more than a steel sprung setup. Don't press too hard on the idiot pedal when you're rolling over dangerous pointy things and your suspension won't break.

Well here's some progress, there's a company that makes cheap 8x17 wheels that will clear my calipers, and that lets me pick up some BFG Mud Terrain KM/2s
