2012 Wrangler factory service manual

Howdy fellow Jeepers,

I'm a long time lurker on this great site, but haven't participated much. I've now got a question that I cant seem to find the answer for.

I've had a factory service manual for every one of the dozen or so 4x4 vehicles (Jeeps, IH Scouts, Nissans, Toyotas) Ive owned in the past, but Jeep did not offer one when I purchased my Wrangler new in 2012. I'm also a very experienced mechanic who has performed 100% of vehicle maintenance, repairs, and mods in my garage, but this is the first new 4x4 I've ever purchased. I see now that Jeep now offers a CD part number 81-370-12063A-CD for $135 which is supposed to be the service manual. I'm dubious on how useful is the information on it.
Has anyone purchased this CD?
What is the file format?
What are the windows requirements?
Does it contain information on the CAN bus network architecture and troubleshooting?
Does it contain information on the various electronic controller I/O logic?
Does it contain detailed disassembly/assembly techniques for the Pentastar v6?
Is it worth the $135?

Thanks for your help!

I tried to search to see if there was a PDF file on the internet that could be downloaded but didn't have any luck. I would try alldata or shopkey5. I've used both and prefer alldata. If you just want info on the JK, try http://www.alldatadiy.com/. $27/year. That should have all the info from maintenance, tearing down the engine, specs, wiring diagrams, etc. It also gives you recall info and tsb's. The info is constantly updated and you can search part numbers.

Thanks for the advice! I'm aware of alldata, it is a great source of technical info, and I will get a diy subscription. However, I'm also looking for a Wrangler service manual that is not internet connection dependent to get the information. Has anyone here bought the CD?

No, but when I asked for a hard copy of the service manual when negotiating the purchase of my JK, the sales guy looked at me like I'd asked him for a night with his wife.

And according to at least 2 Canadian dealerships I spoke to, they don't offer the service manual for private sale. If you can get one stateside as a regular joe, I'd be keen. I used the AllData option when I had to redo my thrust (throwout) bearing and it sufficed, but I either need to go to every single page, save 'em as a PDF, or find a proper PDF service manual. Obviously I'd prefer the latter!

For years I've used the Hayne manuals.. and although these repair manuals don't offer full detail on many of the projects we do, the service manual you're looking for is the next best alternative.. I just can't justify spending that kind of green on a services mainly. and the last batch Hayne sent me t give away.. didn't have any full detail as to the 07-current jeep wrangler (after haynes assured me these new manuals would cover our years) However, I would be open to the Community offering a several manual for all community members.. thus allowing members to view pages online, here at Expedition Portal.
