I feel the same way about leather, gotta have it. Every time I see someone cover it with a canvas seat cover I cringe a little on the inside, bravo to you and enjoy the comfort.

Looks great...I wish Toyota made the trail edition with a tan interior...tan leather, etc...

Love the looks of yours but could never do black interior with black carpet...

Looking forward to your build!!!

Wow, looks fantastic! Good job!

Excuse my ignorance but couldn't you have bought the oem leather skins from the Toyota dealership? Do they even sell them?

Leather looks great Paul. I agree that is one of the major downfalls to the OEM options of the Trail Edition.

Looks nice and comfortable Paul. Did the seats have a airbag built into them? If so any problems with the Katzkins and air bag compatibility?

Paul what off road stuff was on the Trail model that you could not get on the limited ?

looking at getting one and read some posts that lead to confusion on T4R ?

I love leather big time also way easier to keep clean with kids and such and being more comfy :)

Nice job Paul! Did the air bags carry over? In a previous post I noted a local Trail edition with leather (since sold at dealer), and I expect the seats were done aftermarket but looked good. Leather was similar, but lighter color in center portion, darker on sides. I prefer yours. Funny, several years ago leather was not something I would prefer, but as I age....

Paul-

Great write-up and photo documentation, thanks for sharing your thought process and installation methodology. I have been contemplating replacing my Wet-Okole seat covers in my 2010 Tacoma for some time and after seeing the fit and finish of your Katzkin install, I know now that is going to be my next modification.

Great Job,

Christopher

No offense guys, but some of your questions can be found on toyota.com or truecar.com

I hope this thread can be more for build up info rather than factory specs.... Not mad. "Just sayin'"

No KDSS on the limited and what I think is the biggest fault of the previous generation 4runner which is no manual transfer case. Both the Sr5 and Trail have a manual transfer case lever. THe limited has a dial with an electronic motor which can fail. Trust me as someone who swapped in an older case into my 4runner after the second time it died.

Trail has KDSS which no other model of 4runner has. (Unless you count the GX470/GX460 as a 4runner which it sort of is)

I spoke to the manager of the dealership service department the day I bought the truck to ask him about my options to get leather seats in the vehicle. He handed me a leather swatch sample set and said, "Yes we can do that. Choose a color that works for you and we can order them for you. It takes a week to get and we will need the truck for a full day to put them in. It will run you about $2300 with seat heaters." The sample set was from Katskin, so I felt pretty comfortable about moving forward on these.

The seats do have air bags in them, yes. And the replacement covers are airbag compliant, including the sewn in tag in the backrest where the bag will deploy. They seem to be pretty thorough about that.

Cheers,

We ended up getting an sr5 because we needed the third row seats. I would have preferred to get the trail edition but it wasn't offered with a third row. I was a little confused by their decision to limit certain add on for certain models. Similar to you issue with wanting leather seats in a trail. In both our cases toyota could have made more money by adding the features we wanted.

I'm confused about KDSS. Is it desirable option or not? Some seem to think it is horrible and others say it is a great thing to have when offroading. I've ridden in a KDSS equipped Lexus GX and it road and handled great on-road.

I find it very desirable and it is the reason I bought my trail edition. There are videos out there on YouTube that can explain it better than I can
