2015 4Runner TRD Project

I do my Expo stuff in my 100 series with a tiny M416 trailer. It really opens up my truck for people and stuff I want to keep clean and dry

I daily drive a TRD Pro and absolutely love it in stock form.

I know they are not the most powerful vehicles in the world and the chassis itself is nowhere near as massive as a Land Cruiser.

My thoughts (if I end up moving toward the 4Runner for big trips) would be to keep the weight off the truck and move it to the trailer so I didn't have to tote the weight all of the other non Expo miles I use the truck.

Beautiful build. Well done.

So, it's my understanding that you are still running the TRD shocks front and rear with the front spacer and rear Icon springs?

I'm looking to improve my angles and add some capacity in the rear, and was thinking about giving the Toytec kit a shot....

-H-

Yes that's correct. I've read many times where folks bash spacer, but I didn't feel I needed to drop a lot of cash on a whole new set up since mine was fairly new and I'm not into rock crawling or flying through the desert at 70 mph. I believe it was the overland package from Toytec. I'd suggest putting a lot of weight in the rear if you go this route though, the spring is rate around 450 lbs if I remember correctly. When I had the rear bumper off the truck, my rear end was high in the sky. It took about 500 miles of driving for everything to settle in.

Thanks! I'm right there with you regarding the trailer. I've got my radar on an AT Horizon or something similiar, however I'm also trying to convince the wife that we need trade in the 4Runner and get her something (kid hauler) and then I can take her 100 series and do somethings with that. I bought it after I built the 4Runner to replace her last SUV and I love driving it.

Awning Install

This week I sold the old awning and replaced it with an Eezi Awn 2000 awning. I decided on this awning because I'm pretty sure in the future to accomodate the family I want to set it up with the Jimmy Tent or add the walls for multi day trips since the RTT is pretty small. It would also give the kids a place to hide from the weather. I haven't set it up yet since it's been snowing for a week straight, but it's finally on the rack and most likely not coming off.

A few updates (Off Grid Engineering, Safari Snorkel)

Recently, with the help of a friend we made a few more modifications to the 4Runner. First up was a dual battery system and 2 new Odyssey batteries. The battery system is from Off Grid Engineering in Erie Colorado and includes 2 battery trays, Blue Sea ACR, Blue Sea in Cab switch, and a Cooper Bussman Fuse System. Just a bit more assurance when out there and I want to keep by beer cold.

The following week we installed a new Safari Snorkel via Cruiser Outfitters & ARB USA. I don't have a steady hand on new vehicles so I left this one to Matt @ Off Grid Engineering. I've installed a few snorkels over the years and this was pretty straight forward. We sealed the holes around the air filter and went to work.

I just received in the mail a new OME BP51 Suspension, however that goes in later in the month as I have a big trip coming up and time isn't on my side. More to come.

Awesome! Dual battery is up next for me. Fortunately mine is a 2012, so it's easier to plop the battery up front. I really want a snorkel, but don't really need it, although I could sell myself on it, lol. It definitely looks good and has some function. What size battery fits in that corner? And did you get a deep cycle? I was having a hard time finding a group 34 or 35 deep cycle or marine battery.

Are you able to fit that 13g water tank behind the back seats and ARB fridge? I thinking of getting rid of my sliding tray and going your route if the tank will fit. thanks!

I've been bugging ARB about the snorkel since late 2014 when I first got the 4runner, then stopped. Then it was released and I bought it asap just because I have a problem. My last snorkel on my Land Rover was mainly because I live on dusty roads and I wanted to protect my investment, I think this one is more because it looks cool than actually using it. As for the batteries, I have 2 Odyssey Group 35 PC1400 in the engine compartment. I ran a 4 day trip in the desert recently and used all my accessories with no problem.

Great build thread its looking very good. I love you opening statement about your Rover and your wife wanting that relationship to end. I recently asked my wife if i could buy a new Tacoma and get rid of my 00 Discovery I've had for 9 years. She promptly drove me to my local Toyota dealer to buy my new 21017 Tacoma. I'm sure for many if not all the same reason your wife was excited. Keep up the great thread and congrats!
