Well, the adventure begins.....first time owning a Chevy

2016 Chevy Silverado LTZ Z71
Midnight Edition

5.3L V8
355 horsepower @ 5,600 rpm
383 lb-ft of torque @ 4,100 rpm

8 speed transmission (8L90)

3.42 gears
Eaton G80 locker

Factory spray in bedliner

Sunroof, power sliding rear window.......the truck has some high end options

Chevrolet front and rear molded floor liners

Brand new Goodyear 265 tires......I was happy to find a truck with 18" wheels/tires

No more 20" setup for me. Ever.

It was also hard to find a truck with power driver AND power passenger seats

The Rancho front and rear shocks are decent, for now

I was curious what the Z71 package was and found this info;

The Z71 package also comes with unique visual features and badging, including a Z71 graphic on the instrument cluster and a special finish on the interior trim pieces.

The Z71 package gives you the following features:
Rancho Brand Shocks
Hill Descent Control
Underbody Transfer Case Shield
Recovery Hooks
High Capacity Air Cleaner
Eaton Heavy-Duty Automatic Locking Rear Differential
Brushed Metal Sill Plates
18” or 20” Wheels
All-terrain Tires

Hill decent control sets and maintains vehicle speed while descending a steep incline. This system works whether the Silverado is in forward or reverse. It is especially effective when towing, like when pulling boats away from a steep boat launch

I found the following specs on the door jam:

Front GAWR: 3,950
Rear GAWR: 3,950
GVWR: 7,200

My 2012 F150 was 7,700, with the super crew and 6.5' bed

I am going to likely get a 2.5" front leveling kit and a 2" rear block kit.

I installed two of these kits on friends trucks and it was an easy 3 hour job

The truck has Goodyear Wrangler tires, that are nice and smooth, just small:

265/65R18 : 31.6 x 10.40

Features and price and condition was the ultimate decision making factor

My search was not brand specific, I was looking at Ram, Ford, and GMC/Chevy
That was pretty much my criteria when truck shopping as well. I was searching between GM , Ford and Toyota at the time. I also factored in mileage as well.

What's the issue with it?

Main symptoms are shudder and/or hard shifting, eventually leading to mechanical failure.

I did some digging and it looks like GM now have a TSB to flush the fluid with an improved ATF by Mobil 1. I would start with that. TSB is https://gm-techlink.com/?p=11127

Lubegard has also taken notice and they say to add 2 bottles of Lubegard Platinum. Lubegard is good stuff I would add a bottle or two after GM does the TSB.

My 2016 Silverado is a 6L80 6 speed and it's very sensitive to fluid levels and conditions...it's at 48K miles and I've completed a pan drop and filter change and it's shifting much better, but the fluid level has to be right on the money. I don't know if the 8 sp is the same way, but that's one thing I would really keep an eye on if you do swap fluids

Our 2010 Suburban sports the 5.3/6L80 combo and I can wholeheartedly concur with the suggestion for regular trans services and fluid level checks. The car runs noticeably better after full flushes, eliminating the lag between shifts. After 153k miles it’s still a great ride for us. ?
