A few notes on what went into putting this rig together …

As I neared retirement, I wanted to do more overlanding … but in a way that would be fun for me with my off-roading mates … and fun for just me and my lovely wife on our own. The first decision was to go with a Four Wheel Camper. They are rugged. They can be configured with everything you might want. And they are low profile for easy, long-haul travel when not overlanding. We looked at FWCs in Woodland, CA and decided that a Hawk was the right size and configuration for us.

The next decision was a truck. We wanted something with the payload and power to easily handle a fully loaded FWC Hawk. That meant we wanted a “real” truck and decided on the F250. The Lariat trim package meant the interior was finished in leather and incredibly quiet and comfortable. The diesel option meant we would have plenty of horsepower and torque for both dirt tracks and the highway.

Finally, we wanted to ensure overlanding would be not just comfortable, but safe. Thus, we got an ARB locking front differential, an ARB front bumper and Warn winch, Firestone air springs, and an Aluminess rear bumper with two swing arms (second spare, storage box). We have used every one of these features at some point in the last ten years.

This rig has been great for travelling I-80 at speed with no effort or crawling hundreds of miles of remote Nevada dirt tracks. We are selling it only because as I turn 80, we have decided to move to a small trailer for our outdoor adventures.

Hi! Can you share picture of the interior? I’m wondering if 2 dogs (90lb & 50lb) can fit in that rear seat area
