So, I'll admit that I'm continually confused by weight ratings, but are you maybe underselling this rig's actual camper capacity?

You indicated that it's set up as having a one ton conversion, then specifically mention it can carry 2000 lbs (1 ton), but my "3/4" ton Chevy has a sticker in the glovebox saying it's camper weight load rating is 2648 lbs, and of course a "one ton" pickup (k3500 or f350, etc.) can carry a lot more than that.

So I just wondered if maybe your modified truck could actually carry a bit bigger load?

Most likely. Springs are designed for 2,000lbs @ 2" over stock ride height. I haven't carried heavier load to test. The Timbren bump stops would assist load capacity depending on how far down the suspension was loaded.

"one ton" and "3/4 ton" are a bit misleading in modern times.

A one ton truck, i.e. F-350 dually or 3500 Dodge or Chevy, can EASILY carry 2,000 pounds in the bed. A 2017 F-350 dually has a base curb weight near #7900. The Gross Vehicle Weight Rating, or the maximum that truck can carry on it's own (no trailer) is about #7,000 (depending on truck configuration). This figure may include people, gear, fuel, water, accessories/options and cargo in the bed of the truck.

The Gross Axle Weight Ratings are approximately #6000 (front) and #10,000 (rear), so there is some margin there. (8k + 7k is not 16k)

Additionally, it can tow a #21,000 trailer via bumper pull and a #32,000 trailer via a gooseneck or fifth wheel hitch, as this centers the pin load directly over the rear axle instead of cantilevered behind it, thereby creating more weight through leverage.

The history of "one ton" as a term goes back many years and is one of those things that will likely never die, although it is not an accurate descriptor and has not been in years.

GCVWR, or Gross Combined Vehicle Weight Rating, is the total weight of all options, fluids, people, gear, cargo weight, pin/hitch weight and trailer weight combined. So if you have a max weight of 20k on your trailer and max weight of 10k on your truck, they must each meet those requirements, but also the sum cannot exceed the GCVWR of the vehicle, which for a new F-350 is in the neighbourhood of 40,000 pounds.

Could you tell me more about the clear bra? It is just a clear 3M wrap, right? What material was used(3M has a few variants)? Was it precut or did the installers cut to fit? How tough is it?

That's a killer dealer on this Tundra! I've ridden in this one and it's very nice, very well setup and super comfy hauling some weight. Pete is the only guy I know personally who buys, modifies and sells rigs more often than I do. But he builds solid vehicles, applies good common sense and loses his *** on them when he re-sells them much like I do. ;) Much of the fun for us is planning and building.

Someone will get a great deal on this well sorted truck.

Good thoughts and information. In the 80s Toyota Hilux was offered with 1 Ton option. Obviously the term 1 Ton and actual weight capacity vary drastically. This truck is designed to handle 2,000lbs @ 2" lift over stock in the bed. It handles better than stock with this load. Thanks for the detailed explanation.

Front hood and under light area were pre-cut and installed by local installer. 3M Bulk film roll was used on the fender, doors, bedside, tailgate. I installed it with help from my brother and friends. This is the 2nd truck I've fully wrapped. It takes patience and there's a learning curve. It's not perfect but looks good and most important protects the paint. No more need to wax. Easy to clean. No scratches from brush/trees. Takes 30-40 hrs labor to do it (at least for us).

I'd highly recommend it. There are many high end sports cars being wrapped now. Cost to have a shop do it is $3,000-6,000 for many vehicles. But repaint costs much more for a quality job.
