Wasn't Schmidt with VW the guy the feds just grabbed?
I did just read today that the Bronco will be a body on frame (Ranger frame) vehicle, I believe the Everest is body on frame however, I'm not sure. I hope its not a re-badged Everest, and it should only be a two-door. I have little hope that the top will be removable. Another article I read today had a Ford rep state that it would not be an early Bronco look alike but, an "iconic model like the F series, Mustang, and GT."
My best guess it would a bastardization of the iconic Bronco, much like what Toyota did with the FJ Cruiser. My apologies to FJ owners, but that thing is so wrong...had so much potential. Could of, would of, should of put it on it the 70 series chassis...with updated looking retro styled body, but...apparently the design team had some bad saki and fugu.![]()
No need to apologize. They're still nice wheeling machines. BUT, could've been sooooo much more!
I guess I don't see the real market position if it doesn't compete well against the Wrangler and to lesser extent the 4Runner with respect to off road. They already make the Explorer. So is the new Bronco going to cannibalize Explorer sales? It would seem to me to have to at least be a solid rear axle and body-on-frame to be different or least appeal to different potential buyers.Yeah, think it will be more like a 4Runner...and not a Wrangler competitor..
Funny thing was, hearing all those people in Oz clamoring for the FJC. Uhhhhhh, you know you've got 70-series available, right? I know about the "greener grass" syndrome, but sheeesh.

Just my thoughts here;
The 4Runner TRD Pro is a pretty competent vehicle off road, so if they are bringing the Ranger back as competition to the Tacoma, it would make a lot of sense to go after the 4Runner with the Bronco.
To a point this would also go after Wrangler sales, just not directly against a Rubicon. More in line with the Sahara buyers. But the Sahara is a pretty reasonable price point, so would have to see what the price point is for the new Bronco.
Except for the short time Ford built Jeeps for WW-II, Ford has never had a vehicle to compete against the Jeep CJ, TJ, LJ, or JK. So going after the 4Runner is more in line with the Bronco lineage.
Only Toyota and Nissan had direct competition to the CJ, and they both dropped out of the market here in the states.
Neither of them even really make anything similar anymore, a short wheel base, 2 door convertible utility. The Patrol and Cruiser are both more about wagons, cab-and-chassis and troop configurations. Even most Jeep Wranglers aren't that anymore. It's more about an image that implies the Wrangler is similar to a CJ2A or CJ7. I'd say Land Rover Defender was really the last standing competitor to the traditional Wrangler.Just my thoughts here;
