2017 Tacoma. Kick in the gut

I'm not real happy about paying for it either. But replacing an engine is a little more than I can do. So, I am at the mercy of the mechanics.

Totally understandable, I’d still consider shopping around a bit more. It seems like you could find someone to do it for less than $12,000, but labor rates at shops have certainly gone up a lot.

Really sorry you’re having to go through this man. These things really suck.

Give these guys a call. https://jarcoinc.com/ for an engine. We just installed one in an 18 Taco and it sounded and ran better than the original before it puked. We did valves on it when it was still under factory warranty. 80k miles later it laid down again. The Jarco is a reman, they also offer reconditioned. We have two more coming from them for a Rav and a Prius. Just curious, did you buy it from a dealer and maybe they have one of those Lifetime Powertrain warranties? This one did, an inhouse. Fella got a reman engine for 100 bucks installed. Billed warranty for $20k.
