2023 Sequoia Limited TRD Offroad Build

Thanks @nickw ! Good question. The LC300 and LX600 are essentially based on each other, or the same platform let's say, whereas of course the Sequoia is the same platform as the NAS 2022 Tundra. Quick google search (not super deep) didn't find a comparison of LC300 vs Tundra axle specs. It's a locking diff rear, of course, and it's pretty beefy to handle the towing spec of up to 9250 pounds. Gearing is 3.31. Spec sheet:

The new Sequoia is very much in our sights for our next vehicle since we aren't getting the 300 Series here stateside. I am guessing based on other builds that you could have mounted 37's if you wanted to? Looks great, love the CBI stuff, wish they weren't such turds about other vehicles and items.

Cheers @SDDiver5 and also @Tex68w we considered 37s for a minute because they definitely fit without too much surgery. We ended up with the LT285/75R17 (34.1) because we felt the vast majority of overlanders won't actually equip with 37s for a myriad of reasons. Probably should have just gone for a true 35", though. Also, diff gearing is already high at 3.31 so going 37s would make things even less attractive on and offroad without a re-gear. Which we want to do, likely at least 4.10s, but we'll have to see how it drives like this, first.

I didn't realize the Sequoia had a solid rear axel. For some reason I thought they had switched to independent suspension. Did they switch and then switch back?

Great looking build, but man this thing dwarfs those 34s! And Toyos run "bigger" than most other brands. Can't wait to see these out on the road, I think Toyota made a lot of mistakes for the general market for this truck, but man did a lot of them work out for the type of crowd that posts on this site.

I don't really understand the Sequoia dimensions, according to the Toyota specs, total cargo volume behind the front seats, all backs folded flat, is exactly the same as the 5th gen 4runner. What am I missing? :/

The truck is longer, but, where does all that room go that might be useful in an overlander?

I think the cargo area vertical space is diminished by the hybrid battery, maybe? And the 3rd row seats can’t stow away, either.
