First midsized truck in a long time. Last was a 2004 Dodge Dakota quad cab 4x4 with the 4.7L V8.

I haven't owned a 4 cylinder.......ever

Traded in the 2016 Silverado for this very nicely equipped truck

I'm very impressed, and overwhelmed by all the interior technology. The 360° camera view options are wild!

Already ordered some front and rear Weathertech liners

I need to decide if I want an cap on the bed or a hard tri fold style tonneau

I still have my Sierra and love it. I have a cap. While it limits me sometimes in using the truck like a truck (cant have a front end loader dump gravel into it), I still manage and the hard shell covered space is great for keeping snow shovel, chainsaw, some tools and whatnot out of the elements. And great for camping. And if I am bringing home lumber I can keep the cap gate open with the tailgate still up and lay the lumber or plywood in that way. Not optimal but very do-able.

I've always had a cap, but the prices of them over the past 3-5 years is insane

I bought the cap on my Silverado used for like $600

I bet a new ARE brand cap for this Canyon would be $3000

A hard folding tonneau is probably $1,000-$1,500 ( still alot) , but I do need and want some sort of secure storage for the bed

I will look around and see if I can find a used cap on Craigslist or FB Marketplace first

One of the soft topper companies makes a soft topper that will coexist with their tonneau cover.

Then when you don't want the topper it is a big wad of tent like material to deal with rather than basically another pickup box to remove and store somewhere.

For me being able to roll either way would be nice. Day to day a tonneau cover would be great. For trips a topper would be nice... but what do I do with it for the 350 days a year I don't need it?

Rounding up at least one sucker volunteer to remove the topper on my Ranger gets old. And then the topper has a huge footprint to store somewhere until I get my sucker volunteer to come back over and help me set it back on.

Congrats on the new rig! I have a besttop soft/ folding canopy on my ZR2 and have been pretty happy with it. Light, folds out of the way when needed, can just have the sides or back zipped up or removed. It has been a good balance.

A Leer topper or similar should not come anywhere near payload. It may be a couple hundred pounds or so. I dont know but if one is running that close to max headroom on the regular I suppose I shouldn't be surorised

Unfortunately my lightly optioned Frontier has only 1160# payload. The tongue weight of my small trailer eats about 1/3 of that. If it had OP's 1600# I wouldn't hesitate to add a cap. I had one on each of my previous F150s and found them to be very useful. I'd have to ponder a GM built turbo a bit.

I'm looking to drive some 6x6 posts into the ground so I can back between them, 2 in each side, set up some chains and hooks or chains and 4x4s to slide under the cap as I unbolt the clamps. Back in, hook up, unbolt, lift and drive away.
