2500 HD Cognito Leveling Kit

I know I like this kit for the looks, but will it really improve my offroad capabilities? If all it's going to do is make it look better I could spend my money on something else.

Truck: 2500Hd Crew Cab, shortbed , 4x4, 4.10, G80 locker, 265 75 16 BFG tires.

Cognito makes great stuff for GM trucks and if you crank your torsion bars it's the best way to do it but there are drawbacks.
It will make your front suspension stiffer and put added strain on your ball joints and steering components.

Looking cool helps off-road, no???? But seriously, if it increases your ground clearance or allows for a taller tire (more ground clearance again), then yes, it will help off-road performance. Will it cause undue wear or strain on your front end? I don't know about that in the GM trucks. It won't in a Dodge or Ford...

I have the Cognito on my 2500HD. I did not chank it up too much to level the front, since I tow with mine.

The parts are built to last Offroad and are much better than OEM. IMO, it was worth it and overall better than others out their.

Cognito makes the best stuff for the relatively weak GM front end and probably the ONLY GM kit that will stand up to abuse.

Look up "Kazuaki" on Dieselplace for his suspension set up, Norcal truck made up the package and are very knowledgeable regarding IFS GM trucks.

Not only will it make your suspension stiff as hell and reduces wheel travel, not so good off-road. You only have a limited amount of suspension travel, if you crank your t-bars it puts your suspension near the end of its travel so you loose alot of droop. Plus with the bars cranked your basically increasing your "spring" rate... All in all is just sucks.

They have some of the best kits for GM trucks. They are def worth the money.

I started with Ready Lift keys and new Bilsteins earlier this year to clear my new rims and tires. The ride was pretty rough and I recently added cognito a-arms to gain back some of the up-travel I lost with the keys.

I'm very pleased now that the a-arms are in place and taking full advantage of the new shocks. I also added HD tie-rods, pitman and idler braces which seem to make for a much more robust front end IMHO.:smiley_drive:

what about for the 1/2 ton crowd? i am seriously thinking about the cognito idler arm/steering arm support kit, hd tie rods, and upper control arms but would LOVE sum feedback before dropping the $$$$. i like the ifs but would like to make it as "bullet proof" as possible - any other opinions? pros? cons?
