'27 Power Wagon Will Get A Cummins Turbodiesel With Monster Torque

Buying a new truck is cerebral overload these days. I’m still loving the basic “loaded” Power Wagon I have. It’s an SLT or Laramie, but 2005 flavor, so just heated leather and then the rest is today’s Tradesman more or less.

And they still couldn't figure out how to add a winch.

Its really wild in all this time no one has ever been able to affix a winch to a cummin truck. Some things are just beyond mans imagination and engineering

The aftermarket has figured it out and it’s tucked away hidden like the factory winch on a hemi. Downside is it’s a 12k winch so you really need a snatch block for serious self recovery with a heavy truck.

I’m guessing it won’t be quite as capable off-road as the gas version. Massive amount of weight on the front end and stiffer rear suspension to address payload. Pretty neat option for that guy that wants it all though

Funny thing is my aftermarket 3" lift Diesel springs are the same p/n as the gas power wagon springs...

my gasser power wagon pulls my travel trailer just fine,and I have a canopy and a bedslide in the box so payload doesn't factor in,I tow myoffroad toys on a trailer.Ihave zero desire for a diesel,never did.

Agreed that the ~1500lb payload on a PW is pretty pathetic. But if the added weight is kept in check, it can be one hell of an awesome PW.

Curious what y'all are trying to tow with a petrol PW that weighs over 10k; construction equipment?

I think I would take a gasser version with the extra payload and a winch. Is that an option?

It doesn't take much.

My little 1950's tractor on a car trailer is 7k.

Would the diesel PW have less payload than the gasser version? That's how it typically works unless the PW Diesel has stiff suspension which, I suppose, defeats the purpose of it to begin with.

I honestly don't get the torque thing at this point, especially crawling in low, modern gassers are plenty powerful in any offroad application, especially with the deeper gearing of the PW.

That’s the case with the Rebel 2500 versions. My brother-in-laws 2025 ctd has a 1900lb payload, vs a similarly equipped 2025 hemi version with a 2700lb payload.

I ended up putting rebel coils/shocks from that gasser VIN into my PW to carry our camper and just do truck things better. Certainly a difference in ride unloaded but does what I needed it to do (with some airbag assistance when the camper is on). Should call it operation rebel wagon or whatever.

We all know when they say self leveling here they mean it'll level itself however it likes, whenever it likes, and you don't get a vote. Lots of people ripping the OEM air suspensions out after they get tired of them being flaky.

I just run Sumosprings on mine. It's a harsh kick in the rear hitting a speed bump mostly unloaded (even with ~200 lbs of Leitner rack, plus however much the full Dethloff skid setup weighs), but it tows and hauls to the official payload/tow ratings very nicely.

For 2025 I believe RAM narrowed the payload difference between the diesel and the gasser, but official payload aside the diesel just weighs several hundred more pounds, and that is what it is.

I like what I have but the success of the Tremor shows a lot of people have varying needs.
