Honda Fuel Pump Notice the applications at the bottom. Believe me when I tell you..put that cap on and drop a fuel hose into another tank and it will draw fuel. The tank has to have no pressure. It would draw it out of a bucket with fuel. The pickup does have to extend from the top of the tank to the bottom. I see where that would be confusing. Technically it is still getting fuel from the bottom of the tank. The reason it does it that way is so that when vacuum is not present the fuel is shut off. That is what makes it safer than a gravity feed. It literally works just like a drink straw.

Makes more sense now. Basically from what I'm reading though, the primary purpose for these pumps was to allow the designers to put the fuel tank lower than the carburetor. Now that makes sense.

The pickup tube in the larger fuel tank will still have to be at the bottom in order for all the fuel to be drawn out. The challenge there is that if there's a leak somewhere in that line between that big tank and the generator, then I'm going to have potential for a siphon feed of the fuel from the big tank even when I'm not using the generator. In my case, the fuel tank is about the same elevation as the generator.I'm going to have to give this installation more thought but that holds promise. BTW, I have a Harbor Freight Predator 3500 so I'm not sure that it has this type of pump but I'm going to check it out...

Anyway, I wasn't aware of these vacuum pumps because I haven't owned a lawn mower in about 15 years lol! I am informed now though so thank you.

as long as the fuel hose inlet in the fuel tank is lower than the carb then the resulting siphon would drain the carb into the larger tank once the pump/generator shut down and then the siphon would be quickly broken because there's not much fuel in the carb.. thats assuming there's no check valve in the fuel pump.

if the float in the carb gets stuck and the engine shutdown, it will not dump all the fuel onto the ground unless that fuel inlet hose is higher than the carb.

Kits for extended run time use.
This guy offers a limited selection of kits. His kits do use an addition vacuum operated fuel pump which maybe the reason they are costly. @dcg141 You maybe able to identify the pump so others can make their own kits.

The original "Berg" extended run time kits. These replace the fuel cap on the generator and use the tank to draw gas from extra fuel tank,

Online dealer for "Berg" large variety of brands supported.

BE WARNED! Any external tank must be vented for fuel to draw from. The new marine tanks and portable fuel cans are not vented as required by CARB laws. These tanks must be modified with an added vented. This vent most be filtered to prevent dirt and dust from contaminating the fuel and tank.

That looks like a low pressure inline 12 volt pump you can get at most auto parts stores. For sure NAPA has them.

The black piece with 3 hose barbs sitting next to the fuel filter?? That is the pump he connects to the crankcase vent. He uses the pulses to pump the fuel.

I think he's referring to the black object gathered together with the other fuel line on the right. that looks to be a squeeze bulb type fuel primer common with earlier outboard motors for boats...

That is exactly what that is. I was looking at some other application also.
