tacoma 2wd to 4wd conversion
I converted my 2004 tacoma xcab prerunner to 4wd. using all stock parts, i even used the 4wd consoul, everything is the same. the frame and spindles already have all the 4WD holes necessary for the front diff to fit. The only real difference is the tranny, t-case and drive shafts. took a few weekends and i had to use a bearing press at my friends shop to due the hubs and spindles.
there is alot of info out there on TTORA and othe sites. I can't specifically comment on the 4runners but i assume it is the same frame up front.
I love my manual hubs with ABS. I haven't had any problems and I only spent about 3 grand in total.
the key is to find the right junk car. I found a 99 single cab with 20k miles on it. Some old man rolled it over and crushed the cab. so i bought the front end and tranny and misc parts for $2000.
Do your research and verify all your part numbers before you begin.
If anyone tells you somethng can't be done it is just that they don't know how to do it and don't want to help you.
