3.4 V6 never touched

My mechanic and I got to poking around yesterday and it appears that the motor in my 95.5 Tacoma has never had anywork done to it after 157,000 miles. The plug wires appear original and so does the rest.

It runs just fine, but I guess I should perform a complete tune up and while I'm at it, I'm going to change all the fuilds.

Pretty amazing and a testiment to these little power plants.

Might as well take care of the timing belt too.

Very much so. If it breaks bad things can happen quickly.

It doesn't surprise me a bit on how well it runs with no maintenance. The 3.4 is an awesome engine. Toyota got it right with this V-6, I won't say anything about the earlier Toyota V-6's:)

From what I read, if I'm going to do the timing belt, I should replace the water pump at the same time. Time to make a list of parts and hit the auto parts store.

Man, just when I was ready to start putting cool stuff on the truck, I have to take a step back and perform regular stuff. Oh well better now before something breaks.

Regarding the timing belt, the 3.4L 5VZE is a non-interfierance motor. So if the belt breaks, the pistons wont come up and slap the valves. Nothing to worry about if it breaks, but at that many miles Id take care of it :coffeedrink:

If its a non-interference motor then usually when the timing belt breaks nothing bad happens. I think I was thinking of the 4.7 which is an interfence motor.

Get a timing belt kit, it has the pulleys too that the timing belt rides on. Get a water pump and thermostat, thermostat is in the lower water outlet which has to come off for the water pump to come off. Check your cam and crank seals, if they are leaking now is the time to fix. Buy good parts to put on, nothing is worse than having to do the job more than once because you put a cheap part on that is bad. I actually prefer my water pumps and thermostats from Toyota, Gates makes a nice timing belt kit, and National or Toyota for the seals.

You ARE putting cool stuff on the truck. Just not the cool stuff you thought! :sombrero:
