3" Eibach springs on 5100 Bllies

Just purchased 5100 Bilsteins to install on my 97 4WD Tacoma. Was looking into the 3" Eibach lift springs for them. Was told by a couple of vendors on TacomaWorld that they do not recommend running the Eibach lift springs with the 5100s and neither does Bilstein. For the reason that the struts are valved for the OEM COs and that the heavier Eibach springs will wear out the struts faster.

Anybody running the Eibach springs on the 5100 Billies and are you running stock UCAs or aftermarket? What's your experience with the setup and any issues?

Which vendors did you talk to? I'm pretty sure that Toytec uses those very springs with 5100s at least for 2nd-Gen Tacos & FJ Cruisers so you might want to ask them.
Send an email to info@toyteclifts.com and ask specifically about using these springs on 5100s on your '97. Their response times are normally pretty quick.

Down South Motorsports and SDHQ. I contacted Toytec and they said no problems running them. But, I figured I would ask for some feedback with people who has first hand experience with them.

im running them, just make sure you only use them on the lowest snap ring setting/coil pertch, other wise you will blow them out... i am running them, and have been for a while, i made the mistake of running them on the middle level because of weight(bumper with winch and steel cable and full armor) and blew both of my struts in about a year. but after i got the new 5100s and put them on the lowest setting ive been good, i just used some top plate spacers to get me that extra .5" of lift.

It seems like most of the people who run this setup are using them with heavier bumper and winches. I think, I will wait until I swap out the bumper.

Maybe its just me, but whats the point of getting the 5100 ADJUSTABLE Billies, and using them on the BOTTOM, ZERO lift notch, with a lift spring that pretty much maxes out the lift range you should be running on stock frontend components?

I chose 885 OME coils and 5100s for my Tundie, with no extra weight on the front...General consensus seems to be that 885s on a 1st Gen Tundie will give about 2" by themselves. I put the Billies on the middle (3rd) notch, and got just a ****hair under 2.9", and they have since settled to just a ****hair under 2.75"...PERFECT!!... I went with the 5100s and a 2" coil so I would have some adjustability given by the Billies.... I guess I would have been kinda POd at myself if the coils by themselves ended up giving me 3" (what I consider to be absolute max lift for the stock suspension), and I had to put the 5100s on bottom notch...Thats why I didnt go with Eibach or Toytec springs....Why pay extra for adjustable shocks when you're only gonna ever have them on the bottom notch anyway?....AND the guy I had mount the coils had a hell of a time doing it....After seeing the 2" coils on the middle of the Billies, i couldnt imagine putting a higher lift spring on them....

For me I wanted them because of the shock itself, not its adjustability. The 4600 series shocks are nice, but the 5100s are nicer. And originally I was running the tundra TRD coils (progressive rate coils) with the tundra 5100(chose the Tundra 5100s over the Tacoma because the Tundra ones have more adjustment settings for finer tuning) set on the middle setting to yield me close to 3" of lift...

When I switched to the eibach coil I kept the same strut, no sense in replacing them as they were less than a year old. I just was a bone head and didn't set the strut on the lowest setting before installing the 3" coils.

OK...that makes sense... :)

Another option if getting new struts for use with 3" coils, and 3" is all you want, might be OME struts...I was debating OMEs, but there is no OME coil specifically marketed for the Tundies...We have to use the Tacoma coils, and total lift numbers are all over the place with 5100/Tacoma OME coils, even with people having the same exact set-up, on the same exact yr/model of Tundie...So I went with 5100s, also for the fine tuning...So far i got lucky setting the 5100s in the middle... :)
