300K miles on the ol' 6.5L diesel....

Most of the ********** talked about these motors seems to be from people who have either never owned one or tried to work it like one would a Cummins.

Excellent engine for a 1/2 ton truck. They are very simple to fix too. Wish they had a gear driven camshaft though instead of the chain.

I'm looking at putting in the 6.2 in my Suburban this year at some point because its just works enough for me!

At one time, a company called DSG made an aftermarket gear drive kit for the 6.2L and 6.5L. I had one in my old 6.2L that I had hopped-up with turbo and over-bored block.

They quit making them, and then started again, and then quit making them again. They're kind of hard to come by now.

Congratulations. The 6.2 and 6.5 motors really are quite good engines as long as they are operated within the parameters they were designed. Best of luck for another 100k miles and hopefully beyond.

Leroy Diesel now makes gears for both the DS2 and DS4 injection pump. Make sure you check out thetruckstop.us and dieseplace.com for 6.5 info.

Last year I hit this on mileage on mine.... all original including the injection pump.

Thanks for the heads up on that gear drive lt1fire. good to know! And I would be happy to see any other links you might have to the GM 6.5 and the Optimiser. You keep that rig ROCKIN now as you are getting some serious mileage on her.. cheers, Chilli...:wings:

I sure do miss driving my 6.5, but with only 3 seats, two shifters coming through the floor it was getting too small for my wife and I and two car seats. If the right 2 door or burb comes along at the right time, Ill be hopping aboard that bus.

Why not get a 6.5 td Burb Bushcoat? Or did they only make the 6.2?

Yes, the 6.5L turbodiesel was available in the Suburbans from 1994 through 1999, and produced in much higher quantities than the 2-door Tahoe. Why GM never made a diesel 4-door Tahoe is beyond me.

That's what I meant, if the right 6.5 burb or 2 door came along at the right time, that's what I would buy.

My buddy I sold my last 6.5 truck to put the drivetrain into a 4 Dr Yukon on 38s so it scoots along not too bad with the NV4500, a team turbo, and all the other goodies I put on over the years.
