33" Tires...

Martin, I dont neccesarily want to run 34/35's, It is just the brand of tire I want to run, that is the smallest I can get to fit my 20" wheels, which I would like to keep, but get some more sidewall out of them. 35's are probably just not practical for me.

Bill, sounds like from your experiance, 35's are great on a dedicated off-road rig, but 33 would be preferable in a DD, which mine is.

AxleIke, that is exactly what I am seeing. Most of the tires made from 20" rim are "Street" tires, unless you are going 35" or up.

I had 'decided' to keep my 20's and run something like a 34/34.5, but I just dont think I can justify the downsides of a tire that size when I drive 80 miles a day on the highway and I will not do any serious wheeling in this rig, not for a few years anyways.

Thanks for the insight guys.

I ran 35's on my first gen 4 runner with no lift.

There's a big difference in wheel well clearance from a first gen 4runner to modern Toyota trucks... just not as easy a task anymore.

I'd recommend trading your 20's for the factory 16's and enjoy the plethora of sizes to choose from. More than likely someone with a street queen would love to have the 20's, and 16's would probably be a better fit for your needs. My $0.02.

Can we see a pic of a first gen on 35's and no lift?
. Don't need a lot of lift for them either. I ran 35's on my first gen 4 runner with no lift.

Not to me. 32's (actually 31.6 or so) is my preference.

265/75/16 or 235/85/16 are my preferred tire sizes. Right now I'm running 265/70/16 (30.6 nominal size) but as soon as these wear out I'll go to a 265/75.

Curious why you prefer that size? I'm trying to decide between a 245/75/16 or a 265/75/16, the latter will rub but the former narrows the track which I don't like especially after a slight lift (1.75").

EDIT: I should mention this is for a pathfinder with a stock size of 255/65/16 (29")

Nice rig Axleike !

So if i keep my 20's the tire I want to run will be 34.1 and i am currently running 31.9, how much difference im MPG should I expect to see? Extra wear and tear? Keep in mind I drive around 25k a year, mostly highway.

Thanks, that was my old rig. It was a good truck, had 325k on it when I retired it.

The aspect ratio and weight is going to affect your mileage more than the height. I saw no change in MPG's going from a 235/75 15 on 4.88 gears to a 33x9.50 on the same gears (both corrected for the gear's and tires.). However, a 33x12.50 gave me a 2-3 mpg drop, on average.

For you, without regearing, I would put out a guess of 2 mpg. But that is only a guess.

Look at what the mailman brought me. Cooper ST maxx in 285/70/17. They are a lot beefier in person.

I agree with Snarky above and I also run an FJ.

People usually refer to LT285/70R17 tires as 33"ers. However, mine are mounted on 9" wide AR Chamber wheels and only measure out at 31 1/2". A friend of mine is running LT285/75R17 tires on an 8.5" rim and actually measure out at 33". Trouble is that not many tires come in that size.

Thanks! Seems to be, your reviews all over the googleverse doesn't hurt either.

I haven't even mounted them yet, but I am impressed with them so far.

How are yours holding up?
