I noticed a week or so ago that BFG now has 33x10.5R15's KM2's available from most resellers again. Now if I can only sell my 35's to make room.

Does any one know of a 33x10.5x16 tire that is C or D load range?
Preferably with a agressive tread pattern. Seems all I look at are E rated, and ride like crap on a light vehicle, like the Jeep. I can't wait to wear out my stock MTR's ( E-rated ).

As long as we're talk'n skinny....

As long as we're tallking skinny, has anyone had any experience or pictures of a 33/9.50/15 on a Cherokee?

Thanks,

That size reminds me of the old bias play Gateway Buckshot Mudders.

They was noisy as heck, not real good on wet roads, but they was tall and skinny and could dig through anything.
But alas they are no more. I've looked high and low on the net and there just none to be had anymore.

What does it look like on the ground, jeffy?

I like the stock steelies. Thinking about getting a set of those myself. Not that I really need another set of rims. I've got 5 AR-587s (15x8), 5 Rubicon Moabs (16x8), and four black rockcrawlers (15x10). I just can't decide. lol.

Hey Jerry,

I got the 15x7 5 spokes since they were the right offset and width I wanted. I had a set of 15x6 9-slots (my original set) but they're too narrow and the BS brought the tire too far inboard. I got these wheels of CL for $150. I have a 5th but didn't get a matching tire since I have the 34x9.5R15 on the back still. If you go with Rubicon's then you can do the 255.85R16's which will be a smidgen taller and .5" narrower. Only real consideration is if you want to go with a E Load Rating or stick with a C. I wanted to keep cost down and those Moab's are a bit rare around these parts. I've seen the 17's all over but haven't seen the 16's in about a year. Not to mention I wanted a more utilitarian look. If I was buying wheels I'd consider getting some Mopar 15x7's or 15x8 steel wheels. Year One sells both in 4" and 4.5" BS which shouldn't push the tire out too far. They look really good but I didn't want to spend $125 each.

The weight of the Jeep is all on the suspension so it's not much different then in the pics. You can really see how narrow it is though in this picture. I lost about 12" of width. I really like the tires though. I probably should have done it a long time ago but got caught up in the whole bigger is better. I never liked the wide flares much.

Just curious if you've noticed any mpg gains and what you might estimate?
I've had both sizes as well, For me the biggest benefit was the 10.50 feeling like I had better control of the Jeep with the lighter tires. But I didn't want to give up the notion to go to 35's back then as well..lol

Well, first off my Jeep gets about 15 mpg with all of the short in town driving I do. It's driven every day though. When I was doing a 40 mile commute, I'd get about 18 mpg with the 35's.

The 33's feel really light. It's make the Jeep feel small and more flick-able. I still have to get used to the tires as the feel of the road is different. I put in a 41T speedometer gear which is pretty close to being 'on'. Actually at 65-70mph, I'm off by about 4 mph though. I need to get a 39T speedometer gear.

Mileage gains, I'm not sure just yet. Although I suspect it will be higher. I'm hoping for 2-3 but it could be higher still. I keep track of my mileage so I should be able to get a better idea of it in a month or two. As of right now, I have less then a week on them.

I can't see myself going back to 35's anytime soon.

Backspacing for a YJ with a 33x10.5 or 265/75r16 (32x10.5)

Hi everyone,

This had been a great thread to follow and I've learned a lot which had pretty much put me in the camp of "thin is in" for my YJ build.

I'm now down to determining final tire tire and backspace

For those with the 33x10.5 tire on a 15" rim what backspace are you running to stay off the spring and under the flare?

For those who run a 16x8 for the metric series would 4.5"bs keep me under the flare and off the spring with a 10.5 wide tire?

This is really the last part of my build to figure out and backspace has become the most difficult to determine.

I plan on going with a BDS lift of 2" on spring and 1" shackle to fit the 265/75r 16 (32x10.5) and if I go to the 33x10.5 I'll either add a 1" BL or just get the BDS 3.5" lift plus a some type of lift shackle.

Any and all help would be appreciated.

New to the forum..

I use 33x10.50x15 BF ATs The wheels are a pro comp rock crawler steel. 15x8 with 3.75 back spacing. just the regular spacing is what I chose. I drive a 96 Cherokee (XJ) and IF I had flares they would line up with the edge of the flare if not a hair under them.

As for the BDS. I ran those on my 83 CJ& a few years back. not a bad choice. These days I am now an OME guy. The ride is much better and with some helper srpings you can carry more with out sagging and still ride nice

Hope this helps.

I started running BFG A/T's in the 30x9.50 size when I was stock. Then with a 3in lift I ran them in the 31x10.50 size on stock wheels for DD/winter use and had a set of 31x10.50 Baja Claw Radials on 15x8 black wheels for trail use. And now at 4.5 inches of lift I run 33x12.50 MT/R's on black 15x8 wheels for Moab trail duty and have picked up a set of BFG A/T's in the 33x12.50 size that are on the stock wheels which will be my street and light trail duty tires. That being said, I will be running a set of KM2's in the 33x10.50 size when the MT/R's are worn out. Tire pressures are 32-35 on the street and 15 on the trail. On a lighter rig you shouldn't ever really need anything wider than a 10.50 width, especially with the modern traction technologies available. I can feel the difference in acceleration and drag when I swap back and forth from A/T to M/T and vise-verse. And in the snow there isn't an all-around tire I trust more than the BFG A/T's, snow tires excluded.
