35's in my XJ with no more lift?!

Now on to the next never ending upgrade. Finding a way to put 35's in place with no increase in lift. Because I so tired from all the welding and cutting read about it at:

Off to the Body Shop....

Now that I welded in the larger wheel well on one side it was time to see how it would look finished. There were loads of other dents and repairs that needed to be done before I started attaching the tubular side rails so off she went to have the dents pulled and the finished wheel well molded in.

I visited the XJ today and saw the progress on the body and the cut out vent for the transmission cooler in the hood.

By the time I return from my Thanksgiving trip it will be reday to come on home for more wheel well work and the installation of the trans cooler.

you didnt have to go that crazy, my friend has stuffed 37s under a 2" lift without cutting out the back fenders.

WOW, 37's with a 2" lift!

I'd like to see some pics, any available. I have to assume that he limited the upward articulation and there isn't room in the wheel well for that size of tire.

In my build I wanted to retain the upward wheel articulation as much as possible.

According to JP magazine something doesn't figure with no cutting, 2 inch lift and 37"s. :Wow1:

this is ~2-3" on 37x14" iroks..

same lift on 37" creepys

3"/37s, 4"/35s, 3"/33s

I couldn't even run 32" tires on 4" lift without rubbing until I adjusted my bump stops.

Some nice XJ's you have there. Looks like there's been some cutting and modification of the wheel wells, but that might just be my prespective.

What was done with the rear bump stops? How long are they?

I am in the middle of cutting my fenders out as well. I am taking it a step further and bending up flat fenders that I will be able to rub/slid on. Pics will soon follow.
In the end I will be running 33's with a RE 3.5 inc lift and have lots of articulation. If I wish to go to 35s I would lose almost all my up travel.

fenders are trimmed, rears are cut and folded up to the pinch seam.

this is my rear bumpstop setup-

the jeep on 35s is running the same thing, i think the same amount of bumpstop as well, the jeep on 37s is running close to 2" more, same poly bumps.

More progress with my rear fenders......

It has been a while since I've posted any progress, Had some other repairs I need to do that took much of my time.

So with those "other items" out of the way I have been working on the modification of the rear fender wells. The plan is to not lose any upward articulation but still fit 35's without any rubbing.

I've tossed the exco-cage idea, sorry but I just could find one that I liked, they all seemed a bit chopped and awkward. I really like the lines of the older Cherokee and opted for an internal cage which I have and am ready to install.

Here are afew pics of the rear fenders just about finished. I'm really pleased with how they came out.

These tires are 33x12.50. I didn't want the new 35's on during all the body work.
