35x12.5x17 vs 315-70-17 BFG KO2

I have read a few threads out there, mostly in Jeep forums about the differences between the 35 and 315 BFG KO2 (looking only at the E rated tires). There doesn't seem to be any definitive answer about why BFG would make two tires so similar in specs. Anyone know why? Any advantages in running the 315 vs the 35 or vice versa?

The 35 is 1/10" taller
The 315 is 1/5" wider yet it is OK to mount on a slightly narrower rim???
You can go faster with the 315.

The 315 is the metric version. Oddly a set of 315x70r17 falkens i had said (35x12.50r17) directly next to the 315xxx. Anyway there are allot better options out than than bfg at’s..

I would agree with this statement and would next ask what it is you plan to put them on? If it's a Super Duty as your name implies then I would definitely look for a more HD friendly tire. If it's for your TJ then you'd probably be ok. I had read numerous reports (and then experienced first hand) that the BFG, AT's are not great for HD trucks both from a longevity standpoint and balance issues. I had a new set put on and rebalanced numerous times before telling the shop to order me some Toyo AT's.

I debated on the size differences and ultimately went with a 35x12.5x17 for what it's worth.

I would consider the falken wildpeak at3 for my F350.

I currently run KO2s on my Jeep and my superduty. I agree that the KO2s may not last long enough on the F350. However, balancing has not been an issue. 37s balanced quite easily on my Jeep. Then 285s balanced easily on my F350, as did some 37s for the F350 {though i think i want to go with 35s or 315s instead).

The KO2s have also given me excellent driveability on and off road in both vehicles. My only concern with the KO2s is long life on the F350.

Anyhow, this thread wasn't meant to be a discussion of KO2s vs other tires. If there's one thing I have learned is everybody has an opinion on off-road tires.

My question remains as shown in the original post.

Ive heard that heavy full size trucks eat BFG's up.

I only run Toyos (AT2 currently) on my superduty(s) and get excellent life.
Beyond 20k on the current set, with well more than 50% tread left.

How many ply sidewall are the KO2s?

I have 23k miles on my KO2s (285s) on my 7.3 diesel F350. That is with a considerable amount of off road travel. They have worn very nicely with regular rotation and balancing. They might make it to 50k miles, but I won't run tires once the tread gets anywhere near the end of life, so I will never know. A buddy of mine has 55k miles on his KO2s on his 2017 Tundra, his miles are almost all street miles. He could run them about another 10k, but again he won't run them that low.

I have 315 70 17 E Falken AT3s on my 2020 F250 , happy with ride, wet and snow performance and treadwear. If I did it again would go with 18s as had to use beads to balance as stick on weights hit the calipers on the front. Have had no issues with the beads.

How many miles on them? Has the noise increased from new? Not being able to use the stick on weights is annoying.

generally

P Metric sizing was intended for pavement.
Lighter weight and easier rolling P Metric is the best choice for urban driving

LT sizing was intended for rougher off road use.
A bit heavier, a bit more sidewall material, the better choice once you leave the road.

Pick the one best suited to yer uses
Nit sure there is a difference on tread life but in theory the lighter tire will deliver better gas mileage, range.
