3rd Gen 4runner Interior Cargo net

Hi all,

It has become readilly apparent that I need some form of protective barrier between the rear cargo area and the rear seat. I have a couple huskies that occupy the rear seat (in folded down position), and camping gear stacked to the ceiling in the rear.

I am guessing that I can't buy anything off the shelf, but was wondering if anyone had built this previously or had any tips or tricks.

What I am thinking currently (if I don't get any better input) is four bolts with rockclimbing hangers drilled through the plastic molding and into the metal body. I am not sold on this, as it is bigger, uglier, and ridiculously strong for a relatively weak anchor (the thin metal of the body). I DO want it to be easilly removable.

Any better suggestions?

I have been researching solutions for the same problem. Many options exist.

Here are some links to get you started. It really all comes down to cost and effort...

There are a lot of options out there. I am currently looking at integrating some attachment points to my roll bar for a custom cargo net.

The FJ communities seem to have some solutions. They like putting cargo webbing all over. Do a search here and on other forums and you will find some pictures.

Cheers.

In the same boat here. I found a raingler net recently on craigslist for super cheap. The only issue I have is the upper mounted D rings will be drilled into the sheet metal. Im not really into that but besides bolting/welding in a roll bar to mount to I dont really see what other option there is. Subscribed.

I plan on having a friend sew me something up, using some decent webbing. For the anchors i was planning on setting some threaded inserts (nut-serts) into C pillar interior sheet metal, and then threading some eye bolts into that which the cargo net would then fasten to. I figure this way there will be minimal holes in the plastic, and i can unscrew the eye bolts at my leisure. With that thin sheet metal, there simply isn't much strength unless you get real creative and weld some panels in, but i figure a properly set threaded insert would be good enough.

Subscribed as well

Kodiak,

Thanks for the solutions. I have a raingler on order. Once it arrives, I will see about my mounting options.

in my cherokee i used a mini truck net tailgate, that way i could just roll it to the side when i didnt want to use it and i always had it. i am planning on using the same thing in my 3rg gen.

this was when i first installed it, later i got the slack out.

I’m lost
I don't have anything yet for 3rd gen 4R. I hope to work on that after I figure out the 60 Series. So no one hold your breath as I move pretty slow on these things.

I got really excited when I looked up your site. Then I got sad when I realized there isn't one for a 3rd gen 4runner. :(

As soon as you make them available, I will buy one.
