3rd Gen 4runner Question :D

I have been wanting a Jeep XJ for some time and it took me a while to save up and then find the right one. After finding it i became concerned that i was to big to fit in one for long periods of time. I also just read alot of posts around the net talking about how much more reliable and better built the 4runner is.

I guess my question is.. Is there any big guys in here that can comment on what its like to go on long trips in one of these? I am 6'4'' 200 lbs and can go up to 230 lbs :wings:

My XJ thread http://www.expeditionportal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=23416

I guess i could also ask if $9500 CAD is enough to buy and mildly build on one of these to get me started. Trying to find a 97+ under 200km (not miles) and also under $8000 is proving difficult where i live hehe.

Thanks for any help you can provide :D

IMHO, Toyota > Jeep. I did the Jeep thing, and it wasn't for me. It felt SO good to get back into a Toyota.

I'm 6' and I find that the 3rd Gen's fit great for me. My friend is 6'3" and he is comfortable. I love 3rd Gen's. Make sure to look for the rear locker! 99+ 4Runners also have a little better interior ergonomics. If you want that rear locker, only 2000 was the last year for them. 2000 was also the last year for a 5-speed manual, too.

Yeah for that money you could find a nice 3rd Gen 4Runner and not have to deal with the "jeep Issues" the Toyota really is worlds apart in terms of build quality.

The XJ is a great trail rig and tons of fun for sure, but it's just not the whole package like the 4Runner is. Plus I can't even imagine what a $9800 XJ looks like, is it dipped in gold???

You trade some front end articulation (with the IFS Toyota) for years of reliable service. Which is more important to you?

Ouch! Harsh, man......

:sombrero::sombrero:

I wasn't really trying to be, but really, it would have to be as new as possible (2001???) and then have alot of add-ons for me to see that as a reasonable price for an XJ. Trucks like CJschonts (sorry I can ne ver remember the exact screen name) are very nice and could be worth that much, but that is hardly what the average "built" anything is like ;)

Cheers
