4.56?

The Isuzu Trooper's came with a Corporate 12bolt rear end - stock 4.56 gearing - larger than a D44 and just shy of a D60. Made in Japan.

The Rodeo/Passport sisters have the D44 as they were made here in the states.

No e-lockers stock, ARB makes an air locker, several auto lockers out there.

Mitsu Monteros had an e-locker option.

I've found this
..." All V6's with 31" tires and 4-cylinder manuals with 31" tires usually had 4.56 gears"...
Here http://www.off-road.com/trucks-4x4/tech/toyota-differential-identification-18588.html

That holds a bit of truth for earlier trucks and 4runners, but even that is not exactly accurate. I've unfortunately found many (most) early V6 trucks to hold 4.10s. I found one 4.56 diff out of a 22re powered automatic 2nd gen 4runner, but that is the only one out of 20-30 trucks I have looked at in the junkyard. I'll have to look at some Prerunner TRDs and see.

Just a tip, pull it yourself and count the teeth. Never go by what someone says it is or what it "should" be, I've been burned both ways by not checking.

Read the page linked above... there is NO 8.4" Gear.... the housing/carrier might be different. but there's a pic of the gears all lined up and the supposed 8.4 (of web myth) is really just an 8" toyota ring gear. I'm not saying it didin't have some differences to it but it's not an 8.4" ring gear. That link above is a really good one for Toyota gearing and diff. identifications.

cheers

they are label 8.4. its what it even says on the door sticker code. i realize its not an 8.4 ring gear, but its also not the same as a regular 8.0 either. these diffs are NOT interchangable i guarantee it

Agreed, just saying the Ring gears are NOT 8.4" is all...

They're sort of lie the Toyota 4.88's they won't go in anything but their specific carriers... Again, I understand exactly what you're saying, I'm just saying that Toyota really made this confusing caling them an 8.4" ring gear...

Someone was either drunk or reading the tape from far below the horizon line ;)

Cheers
