4", 7" HID rally lights on sale at Kragen

The venerable el-cheapo HID rally lights are on sale at Kragen, the 7" version is $99, the 4" is $95.

Don't know much about the quality of these things, but I've seen positive reviews on ExPo and they seem better built than you'd expect for the price. I got mine anyway.

a couple friends have them and love them, personally I swapped in HID bulbs for the headlights and havent bothered with any additional forward lighting yet, that way you get the benefit of the better lighting continually. If & when I DO go to auxillary forward lighting I'll probably go to the new Eagle Eye HID's as they are the brightest on the market and very well built (50w HID compared to everyone elses 35w setup) but for the money on these everyone that has them says you cant go wrong

I just happened to be on the KC Daylighters page this morning. They are showing a 70 watt HID light assembly.

It was only a matter of time.....

EDIT: just went to look & everything I saw listed was 35w... have a link to the 70w ?

I have 4 of the 7 inch Kragen HID's mounted on my bumper. They replaced 2 KC daylighter 100w 6x9 and 2 hella 6 inch halogen lights.

Im more than happy. Much brighter.

Reading the link to Delica.co, he mentions the lights take a minute to warm up.
We drive on mountain roads and end up switching our high beams on and off due to oncoming vehicles.
In our case are halogen lights a better choice?

I like those HID's though.

I think high wattage halogens are best for that kind of driving. I'm running Hella 4000 with HID bulbs and they do need to warm up. Also, the on/off cycling may not be good for the bulbs and could shorten their life span.

I believe David has it right. The high wattage halogens are better for constant on and off. I plan on keeping my IPF's up front and adding a set of HID's to a roof rack/basket I am building. I really only need the HID's when in the desert. I am thinking two 7" HID's would be perfect on the roof rack/basket.

I love them but they do take half a min to reach full brightness.

Kind of like fluorecent tube lighting you see in many stores that flicker on.

You can cycle them on and off but I'm guessing it would lower the longevity of them.

Who knows. I've cycled them on/off used as highbeams on the highway and haven't had any issues with them yet.

They are very durable. I recommend them for the money. :chef:

I got mine mounted, and for a bargain they are very well built. The mounting stud is stainless steel, and the adjustment pivot is also metal. Once mounted they are rock solid. Very high Bang/Buck ratio. Light pattern I'm sure is nothing like Hella or Cibie, but for this kind of light all you care about is that there is an abundant amount of it. There is a very intense horizontal spot, with an evenly distributed flood pattern everywhere else, at least 120 degrees.
The only drawback for me is that my bumper only extends about 3" forward of my grille, and these lights are deep enough that they protrude forward of the bumper making them a little bit vulnerable. The 4" version might be slightly shallower? Shucks, maybe I'll have to weld a bullbar onto my bumper..
Definitely not for use to augment hi-beams, due to flickery, slow warm-up, and if you accidentally left them on it could be very dangerous.
