So I am currently away from home for business and my wife texted me that here friend was selling her 4 door jeep. I want to buy it for here but know nothing about jeep.
This is what I know about it

2007 jeep wrangler x unlimited , 4 door, manual, softcover, custom bumbers and 33 tires, 25k miles, one owner (my kids coach owns it), $21K

so what does X mean?

There is realy no way for me to get any other info becasue I am not at home.
The wife really likes it and I want to get it for here but dont want to get it and then find out I could have gotten something better for my money
I want to purchase it for here but would like to be a little more knowledgable of what I am buying. if that makes sense.

Any comments, advise, suggestions, links, or help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

X is the base model, black fender flares (vs. Sahara model which has color coded flares), base stereo ( no subwoofer), possibly no power windows, no factory fog lights in the front bumper. If theres more I'll chime back in.

X is the base model. If you intend to replace the axles, add lockers, upgrade the transfer case, extend the drive shafts, and replace the suspension, this is the platform to start with. Or, buy a Rubicon and add a lift. I don't know much about nuances between the 2007 and 2011 (new interior) and 2012 (new engine/tranny) model years, so I cant't help you there, but I can tell you that many people in my jeep club do the following to their 2007-2010 JK's:

1. Gearing: Stock motor is a dog, and not in a good way (the old 4.0 was a dog too, but like a tractor and awesome). Particularly necessary if you go up to 35" or 37" tires. Running 33" are okay, but really doggy, you'll want to change gearing
2. Steering upgrades. Not just the tierods and high clearance kits, but also the mount to the front axle
3. Lockers if you don't buy a Ruby
4. Sway bar disconnects if you don't buy a Ruby (or Currie Anti-rock)
5. Bumpers
6. Lighting - I consistently hear complaints about the stock headlights being weak
7. Roll bar upgrades. The JK is heavy and fat, and does not roll well (think passenger survivability) without upgraded roll bars, particularly for the windshield area

Thanks for the responses guys.

Does the price sound reasonable? It is very well kept and practicly new.

Not too familiar with the pricing in the US, however I would think that would be a bit on the high end. You could likely find something that's 3 maybe 4k lower if you looked around. Remember... while the bumpers, lift and tires hold value to the person who put them on, they hold less value to you unless they're exactly what you're looking for. The aftermarket options for the JKs is endless.

The price is high, Del.

The stock gearing is 3.21 unless it had a tow package; 4.10 was the tow package in '07.
The manual trans is okay for 33s unless you see a bunch of hills or want to tow. The front carrier has to be replaced if it has 3.21s and you want to regear.

What's the plan for it? DD or some wheeling?
I'd go to 32s and keep it stock if she's just running the kids around with it.

Keeping the H3?

$18K is a better price with the new Pentastar-equipped version competing. Maybe you can ask him to get a CarMax quote and match it.
