Being a former radio operator in the Marine Corps I have used these radios more than I even care to think about.

If I wanted a 2 way mil spec radio, I wouldn't think twice about buying these and probably have a better chance at getting hit by lightening than ever having problems using these radios.

Also the chances you are on someones freq are so slim that if you are on the same channel as someone else... And with the icoms operating range... you probably shouldn't be in the area to begin with. Those of you out west and roam old military grounds maybe the Yuma area etc I'd probably stay away from these (not to step on my own words) but someone roaming a farm ground or a off road park or dunes or a hunter of some sort... These would be awesome.

And Lynn ... Sure the "mil spec" term is widely used now but these radios can stand up to some serious abuse. - from experience.
