4-runner buyer question

I'm looking at a 4runner to buy that in the last 10k has a new (not rebuilt) transmission. The truck is in very nice shape overall and they are asking a very reasonable price which I would work down from. It's a '99 limited with 180k.

How concerned should I be with the new transmission? Obviously, records are a must and an inspection by a local mechanic would happen as well.

If it was a toyota transmission I would say don't worry too much. There are a ton of variables of course, but I wouldn't worry. The auto tranny's generally last much longer, but I know that some have gone around those miles so it's not totally unheard of.
Just check to see if it spent it's life towing etc which would affect the motor and driveline of course.

Have you asked the sellers why the transmission was replaced? It is possible that they got the dreaded strawberry milkshake - that is when the transmission cooler hose inside the radiator breaks and contaminates the transmission with antifreeze. Most transmissions that suffer this need to be completely rebuilt or replaced.
