4m50 highway use?

It may have handled more weight and/or more speed, but I was not willing to find out. I will check GVW on mine, but I don't think it is 18,000.

I have never towed anything with it, so I cannot comment on performance there. Steinbauer (sp) makes a chip for my truck that provides about 260 hp and 560 TQ, IIRC, that would be a nice boost in power, but the ride and suspension will still need some work. Additionally, there are few, if any gear choices for these axles, so even with plenty of power, you are still going to be turning high RPM at highway speeds.

Mine seems pretty happy at 50-60 mph on the back roads and I try to keep it there and avoid the 65 - 80 MPH traffic on the hwy if at all possible.

Is the steinberner chip for fe? Thought it was just the fg?

On mine cause of the higher gvw brakes and suspension seemed to handle the weight well.

If I had more power I think a little help with lower rpm would be 19.5" wheels from a hino or similar.

I have to much money in this truck to abandon now so I think I will be seeing what I can get for power.

I think the engine is severely detuned for longevity so I think I could find a happy medium

I stand corrected on the Steinbauer chip. It is available for FE and FG models, but only for the new 3L motor (4P10) and not for the 4M50, at least not on the US site. May check with the Aussies and see if they can get it for you.

There is a chip for the USDM NPR (5.2L inline four), so I guess I got my wires crossed.

EDIT: the 19.5 tires will handle heavier loads, but ride rough IMO. Also they cannot be aird down like a 16" wheel and tire combo can, as the bead is different. Not sure what you use your truck for, but keep that in mind.

A Toyo M608 is rated around 4500 pounds at 110 psi. Load and inflation tables for that tire, do not show pressures below 80 PSI, so you may be in for a rough ride.

The Steinbauer chip is available for the 4M50 here, I'm planning on getting one next year. Alan I think has sent one to Canada before.

Check out the ATW page on super singles.

There's a section on pressures, taken from their page.

The maximum pressure of the M608Z is 120psi and this could be used if the load was the maximum allowable 2900kg per tyre. That's 11,600kg in total! Does your Isuzu NPS or Fuso Canter weigh that much? Typical highway pressures for these tyres on NPS's or Canters are between 65psi and 95psi depending on the axle loads. Pressures off highway, corrugated roads, sand, etc are reduced accordingly. For vehicles with an overall mass less than 6500kg, pressures may also be lowered but for a vehicle with a maximum weight of 6500kg, we recommend:
• Highway @ 6500 Kgs. Front 70-75 PSI / Rear – 75-80 PSI
• Dirt Roads @ 6500 Kgs. Front 60-65 PSI / Rear – 65-70 PSI
• Off Road / Mud @ 6500 Kgs. Front 55-60 PSI / Rear – 60-65 PSI
• Beach Sand @ 6500 Kgs. Front 50-40 PSI / Rear – 55-45 PSI*

I can't remember what RPM I was at, but on the drive home it'd happily sit on 100km/h, got to 110 but didn't like it, 120 downhill with a tailwind and me running behind pushing it and truck really didn't like it. This is with the ATW super singles, camper body about 6" high than the truck roof but little weight (probably weighed around 3300kg/7300lb).

Doing 90 seemed like it was in its sweet spot for me for both comfort and fuel economy, but we didn't do that for more than an hour or so. Having said that though, we got 18l/100k (13mpg) over the course of 2000k's.

62mph is about my max cruise speed (on flat) so that sounds about right.

My truck is a work truck..it's also a fe.

Deff leaving duals on and i all ready have 17.5 so 19.5 is not a huge jump.
